The author would like to emphasize what happened to the “Island President,” that made an inspiring
environmental documentary notes in the world, but on the other side and to be honest, the author felt
pity for the country, Maldives, as they are truly affected by the Climate Change phenomenon.

Arguments
Their President kept on fighting and defended his vision and position to the world in tackling the rising
sea level that was resulted from the Climate Change due to global human activities as an example,
which he had insisted on how many times in his campaign for document approval in reducing a certain
degree with 350 ppm and 1.5 degrees Celsius, and therefore, saving the sinking island somehow.
The adaptation policy agreement being contested was held at the Copenhagen Climate Change Summit
along with all the leaders from around the world to discuss the effect of the scenario in convincing the
committee for a solution on how they can save the Maldives as an island with low-lying none rising to
more than 1.80 meters above sea level throughout the country with Figure 01, part of the island.
Indeed, Maldives President Mohamed Nasheed is an environmentalist protector with political will and a
heroic for the country in fighting the existential threat of Climate Change phenomenon to his small coral
islands, which has only 80% of the total land area. Nevertheless, the entire island with less than one
meter above the mean sea level and as for their speculation might lose the country, the Maldives on the
map.

Solution and Policy Agreement

However, according to the UNDP (United Nations Development Program) as a reference to answer the
question of the situation of Maldives in terms of Climate Change whereas have been created considering
that Maldives Climate Change Adaptation identifies and quoted the followings;
12 priority adaptation actions that are being funded through the LDCF: “Integration of
future climate change scenarios into the Safer Island Strategy.”
Special Climate Change Fund (SCCF) is considering funding for an additional project that
may address NAPA (Maldives’ National Adaptation Programmed of Action) priorities.
Adaptation actions focus on risk reduction in coastal zones with the building of
infrastructure to reduce the vulnerability of coastal populations.
The proposed project activities are being addressed for the areas of health, tourism, water,
agriculture, nature, and fisheries.
The Viewport
What the author learned from the Island President is about his love, devotion and political will for his
country and to his countrymen, which the author may say, YES, and it is indeed that the most important
to a leader must have to have an initiative and heart for the people whose relying on him; love to the
environment in saving lives and the island towards Climate Change Impacts and evolution.
However, with his strong voice, extra strength in delivering his goals to the world, and has consistently
fought against all odds for the sake of his countrymen environmental protection, and that for him, can
only be done through the amendment of Climate Change Adaptation Policy Agreement in restricting to
350 ppm and 1.5 degrees Celsius at the Copenhagen Climate Change Summit of the world leaders.
Because of Maldives President Mohamed Nasheed pleading voice addresses to the industrialized nations
from around the globe, and therefore, the policy agreement had been discussed, agreed and approved at
the end of the summit and became historic. And this is a very admiring voice with love and courage, a
lesson that has to be emulated in saving the island to a sustainable environment for the community.

Conclusion
The author’s view and as a CONCLUSION whether do you agree with why or why not, obviously and
indeed, the author truly admires the way he did for the country. His leadership approaches as an

example and strategies, the initiative that has been done for the sake of his countrymen and for the
island wherein they live, the love for his country against all odds that seems very difficult for a small
country like the Maldives to the world. However, with strong emphasis, dedication and love for the
environment, Climate Change has been addressed through adaptation and mitigation principles.

Recommendations
With all the aspirations happening and changes that have been done in the country, the process of
humanism and affection in helping neighboring countries who are in need must be observed.
The policy approvals mean a lot not only for the Maldives but the entire countries around the globe,
which means, becoming resilient more than the usual environment they have in the past decades.
Disturbances in the country towards urbanism in the heart of climate change phenomenon is an essential
aspect of land use planning, the spatial patterns of recovery must be considered within the landscape
ecology to form a versatile sustainable environment. Most importantly and highly recommend that the
said policies must be included in the process through landscape planning, design and environmental
management incorporating the modern strategic application.
