News Program and Content Analysis
I have grown up listening to 24 Oras of GMA, and since then, I still salute
all the News Presenters of this show. When it comes to reporting, they are
professional, and they still have following the ethics of News TV Broadcasting in our
KDP code. They're not just entertaining, and primarily, 24 Oras inform us of current
events and situations in our country. Somehow, some of their news, especially in
their segment "Chika Minute" hosted by Iya Villana-Arellano, only talks about
entertainment and showbiz. But even so, they still follow the No less than 30 minutes
devoted for daily news rather than purely entertainment.
The 24 Oras also show integrity when it comes to the information they
disseminated to us. As a News TV Broadcasting station, audiences demand truthfulness
from them, and for me, they never failed for that. Another factor is their being
accurate in collecting news. They have a good choice in hiring journalist and
researcher, and the reason for that is if they have those kinds of the researcher, it
would be sure that the news they get is trusted and reliable.
If we talk about how they deliver news that has Crime and Violence, they put
some videos and pictures, but at the same time, they blurred some of the people if
necessary. And just like their news coverage about Policeman Jonel Nuezca, who killed
a mother, son in Tarlac. They show the whole clip recorded by the family of the
victim as evidence for their news. This kind of way shows being objective, which is
good in news making and writing. They also put a filter on obscenity situations, like
in the case of Mr. Nuezca. You won't hear bad words because they've added effects so
that the viewers unable to heed them. That in case there is a child watching, they
would not understand it. However, it is not ethical for us to hear such words on
national TV.
To sum up, without proper ethics, the reporter can't achieve fairness. It is
necessary so they can handle conflicts of interest and pursue stories with compassion
and empathy.
