Host #2: So what do Qualitative research mean?

Guest #1: Basically, (answer)…

Host #2: How does quantitative research differ from qualitative?

Guest #2: In a nutshell, qualitative research generates “textual data” (non-numerical).

Quantitative research, on the contrary, produces “numerical data” or information that can be
converted into numbers.

Guest #3: Qualitative research is considered to be particularly suitable for exploratory research
(e.g. during the pilot stage of a research project, for example). It is primarily used to discover and
gain an in-depth understanding of individual experiences, thoughts, opinions, and trends, and to
dig deeper into the problem at hand.

Host #1: Now we know the difference of it, may I ask what are the most common applied in
qualitative methods?
Guest #4: Well, the most common applied in qualitative methods are individual interviews,
group discussions, focus groups, and behavioral observations

Host #1: So we’ll still have major questions for our guests connected to the qualitative research
after a short break so just sit and watch

Host #2: And now we’re back. Earlier, we discussed about the term Qualitative research and
how it differs from Quantitative research. As we go on to our program, we’ll now be asking what
are the example studies they can share to us
Guest #: FIA study
Host #2: 1st question is, how relevant is the research problem in this report to the actual
practice of nursing? Does the study focus on a topic that is a priority area for nursing
research?
Guest #5: (answer)
Host #1: 2nd question is, what is the underlying purpose (or purposes) of the study-
identification, description, exploration, explanation, or prediction and control? Does the
purpose correspond to an EBP focus such as treatment, diagnosis, prevention of harm,
etiology, or meaning?
Guest #6: (answer)
Host 1: What are the treatment and s/s of FIA?
Guest #___: answer
Host #2: 3rd question, is this study fundamentally cause-probing?
Guest #1: (answer)
Host #1: so this is the last question for our guests. What might be some clinical implications
of this research? To what type of people and settings is the research most relevant? If the
findings are accurate, how might the results of the study be used by you?
Guest #2: (answer)
Host #2: Very well said. Thank you for enlightening us about Qualitative research and
patiently answering our questions.
Host #1: Thank you for being here with us. See you all next time here on…
