LEARNING ACTIVITY SHEET (LAS) IN MATHEMATICS 10

Generating Patterns and Illustrating Arithmetic Sequence

Background Information for Learners

 A sequence is a set of numbers, shapes, patterns, or rules. Sequence may be arithmetic or geometric.
 Term is any number in a sequence.
 An arithmetic sequence is a sequence in which the difference between any two successive terms is a
constant. This constant is called the common difference (d).

Learning Competency with Code

 The learner generates patterns. M10AL-Ia-1
 The learner illustrates an arithmetic sequence M10AL-Ib-1

Directions/ Instructions:
Answer the following math questions. Write your answer on the space provided.

Exercises / Activities

A. What Is It
Determine the patterns and calculate the next two terms. See page 20 of your ILSEM module.

1.) 5, 10, 15, 20, _____, ______

2.) 4, 16, 28, 40, ______, _______
3.) 1,4,10, 19, 31, _______, _______
4.) 10, -100, 1000, -10000, ___________, ___________
5.) 1024, 512, 256, ______, ________

B. What’s More
Supply the missing term to complete the sequence. See page 22 of your ILSEM module.

1.) 3, 8, 13, 18, ______, ________, 33, 38

2.) 9, 17, 25, 33, ______, _______
3.) 1003, 1006, 1009, _______, _______, 1018

Create a pattern/sequence based on the following statements. See page 22 of your ILSEM module.

4.) Multiples of 2 starting from 10 up to 30. _______________________________

5.) First term is 75 and last term is 200, the common difference is 25. ____________________

C. What I Can Do
Determine whether the given sequence is arithmetic or not. If the sequence is arithmetic, WRITE the
common difference and the next two terms. The first one is done for you. See page 23 of your ILSEM module.

2. ) 3, 10, 17, 24, 31
3. ) 9, 11, 13, 15, 17
4. ) 1,2,8,9,11,12
5. ) 5, 18,31,44

D. Assessment
Find the missing term in the following sequences. See page 23 of your ILSEM module.

1.) 9, _____, 27, _____, 45

2.) 42, 35, 28, _____, _____
3.) -8, -16, -24, _____, _____, -48
4.) 10.5, 12, 13.5, ____, 16.5, ______

5.) , , _____, , ______

E. Post Test
Read carefully. Encircle the letter of the correct answer.

a.) 57 b.) 60 c.) 63 d.) 70

2. Which of the following is an arithmetic sequence?

a.) 1, 4, 8, 16, 32 b.) 13, 25, 37, 49 c.) 3, 9, 27, 81 d.) -2, 4, -6, 8

3. In an arithmetic sequence 3, 6, 9, 12, 15, 18, 21,… which term is 36?

a.) 10th term b.) 11th term c.) 12th term d.) 13th term

4. How many terms are there in the arithmetic sequence with a common difference of 5, first term is 2 and the
last term is 37?
a.) 6 b.) 7 c.) 8 d.) 9

5. What is the common difference of an arithmetic sequence whose first term is 20 and whose fifth terms is
44?
a.) 6 b.) 7 c.) 8 d.) 9
