 Round decimals to the nearest tenths/hundredths/thousandths
 Write the rounded form to the nearest tenths/hundredths/thousandths
 Round decimals through tenths/hundredths/thousandths with speed and accuracy

II. Learning Content

Skills: Rounding decimals to the nearest tenths/hundredths/thousandths
Reference: BEC-PELC II.f.2.2 Mathematics for Everyday Use 5 pp.144-145, 21st
Century Math pp. 108-109
Materials: Flash Cards, Chart, Activity Cards
Value: Speed and Accuracy

III. Learning Experiences

A. Preparatory Activities

2. Review
Identifying place value through thousandths

Mechanics:

a. The teacher will ask a pupil to choose a number and identify its place value.
b. To check if his/her answer is correct; the pupil will pull down a paper behind the
chosen number.

like “This number is close to 50. It is between 45 and 47. What is the number?” Pupils will
mention the number. Another example: “This number is 3 more than 40. What is the
number?” (Continue this activity until the pupils master the game.

B. Developmental Activities

Group Activity

Group 1

equally into sections of 0.1535 dm. How can we round 0.437 to the nearest
hundredths and 0.1535 to the nearest thousandths?
Answer the following:

A. What is asked in the problem?

B. What are the given facts?
C. Round 0.785 to the nearest hundredths?
D. Round 1.264 to the nearest tenths?

Group 2

Round off the decimal to the indicated place value.

Tenths Hundredths Thousandths

0.8157
62.4213
0.9349
11.9846
2.0452

Group 3

Underline the rounding place of each number and then, round it as required.

a. 0.465 to the nearest tenths

b. 9.135 to the nearest tenths
c. 14.678 to the nearest hundredths
d. 12.438 to the nearest hundredths

C. Processing the Result of Activity

Ask the following to the pupils:

 How do we round decimals?
 What are the rules in rounding off decimals?

D. Reinforcing Activity

Instructional Game

Mechanics:
The teacher will divide the class into two or more teams. A player from one
team goes to the board and answers the first number. If correct, the team wins a
point. A member of the next team answers the second number, and continues in
this manner.
