Practice Password Skills Test – Instructions

The purpose of these instructions is to enable you to successfully take a practice Password test quickly
and easily. You may find it helpful to look at the additional information (how to set up PCs and take
Password tests, additional information on taking a test, FAQs etc.) in the Password website "For Test
Takers" "Useful Documents and Videos" area https://englishlanguagetesting.co.uk/test-takers/

If you need any help with taking the practice Password test, you need to contact the person
that supplied your test access login.

Before you start the practice test, we strongly recommend that you:

Confirm you meet the basic PC requirements.

Once your PC is set up and you have completed a practice test, your invigilator will provide you with a
different code for the official test on the day of the exam.

Please keep in mind that the official test can only be taken once with the one code that has been
issued. If you require another code another payment is required.

Practice Password skills test - checklist

1. Before running a practice password test:
 
Meet basic requirements by making sure you have:
o Internet Explorer 9 or above.
o Microsoft Windows 7, 8 or 10 operating system.
o Skype installed.
o Flash player installed.
o Stable Internet connection.
o Headphones and a microphone.
o Keyboard and mouse.
o Up to date anti-virus software.

 A desktop shortcut icon is set up on PC being used to run tests.
1. Right click on your desktop, select "New" then select "Shortcut".
2. In "Type the location of the item" enter the following text (in red):
"C:\Program Files\Internet Explorer\iexplore.exe" -k -nohome

3. Click on "Next".
4. In "Type a name for this shortcut" enter "Password Platform".
5. Click on "finish”.

 Headphones and/ or microphones are working correctly:
1. Double click on the desktop shortcut, the Password login page will appear filling the entire screen.
2. Enter the login “checksetup” and password “setup” then click on “login”.
3. Click on “start” and then “continue”, enter your name, click on “continue” and follow the
instructions on the screen.

2. Running a practice password test:

1. Restart the PC and make sure all programmes (including Skype, email, MSN etc.) and
especially those that generate "pop up" messages are turned off.

2. Start Internet Explorer and go to

"http://passwordplatform.englishlanguagetesting.co.uk/Login.aspx ". Press the "F11" key so
Internet Explorer fills the entire screen.

3. Enter a Password test login and password (see page 1), then click on "login".

4. Enter your details accurately into the "candidate details" page.

5. Click on "continue" to start the test.

6. When the Password Practice test has been completed and the Password Platform login page is
displayed again, press the "Alt" + "F4" buttons together on the keyboard to exit.
