A. Reflections: Write 5 importance of the language of mathematics in your life as a student. Use the 3 characteristics of the
language mentioned in the content and discussion.

We use math everyday rather we know it or not. Math is so important in our lives. It is one of those subjects, whether
we like it or not, that people will need for the rest of their lives. Making my everyday routine, We prepare budgets
based on simple calculations with the help of simple mathematical concepts. So, we can’t say, I am not going to study
math ever! Everything which is going around us is somehow related to math. If I like to do an exercise or workout, set
our routine according to our workout schedule, count the number of repetitions while exercising, just based on math. In
the grocery or supermarket, the schemes like ‘ 50% off’, ‘Buy one get one free’, and more are seen on most of the
stores. Customers visit the stores see such schemes, estimate the quantity to be bought, the weight, the price per unit,
discount calculations, and finally the total price of the product and buy it. In your kitchen also the math is performed.
For cooking or baking anything, a series of steps are followed, telling us how much of the quantity to be used for
cooking, the proportion of different ingredients, methods of cooking, the cookware to be used, and many more. Lastly in
Sports, Math improves the cognitive and decision-making skills of a person. Such skills are very important for a sports
person because by this he can take the right decisions for his team. If a person lacks such abilities, he won’t be able to
make correct estimations. So, math also forms an important part of the sports field. Galileo Galilei quoted that
“Mathematics is the language in which God has written the universe”, Everyone uses mathematics in our day to day
lives, and most of the time, we do not even realize it. Without math, our world would be missing a key component in its
makeup.

C. Identify numbers 1 to 5 in (B) if it is an expression or a sentence. Circle the correct answer.

1. Sentence, expression

2. Sentence, expression

3. Sentence, expression

4. Sentence, expression

5. Sentence, expression
D. Perform the indicated operations using PEMDAS. Always remember, Honesty is the best policy. The use of calculator is
not allowed. Write the final answer beside each expression.

1) 21 ÷ 3 + (3 × 9) × 9 + 5 = 21/3+(3x9)x9+5 2) 18 ÷ 6 × (4 - 3) + 6 =18/6x(4-3)+6
=21/3+27x9+5 =18/6x1+6
=7+27x9+5 =3x1+6
=7+243+5 =3+6
=250+5 =9
=255

3) 14 - 8 + 3 + 8 × (24 ÷ 8) = 14-8+3+8x(24/8) 4) 4 × 5 + (14 + 8) - 36 ÷ 9 =4x5+(14+8)-36/9

=14-8+3+8x3 =4x5+22-36/9
=14-8+3+24 =20+22-36/9
=6+3+24 =20+22-4
=9+24 =20+18
=33 =38

5) (17 - 7) × 6 + 2 + 56 - 8 = (17-7)x6+2+56-8 6) (28 ÷ 4) + 3 + (10 - 8) × 5 = (17-7)x6+2+56-8

=10x6+2+56-8 =10x6+2+56-8
=60+2+56-8 =60+2+56-8
=60+2+48 =60+2+48
=62+48 =62+48
=110 =110

7) 12 - 5 + 6 × 3 + 20 ÷ 4 = 12-5+6x3+20/4 8) 36 ÷ 9 + 48 - 10 ÷ 2 = 36/9+48-10/2
=12-5+18+20/4 =4+48-10/2
