NOVENA FOR THE SOLEMNITY OF THE ASSUMPTION OF THE BLESSED VIRGIN MARY

(AUGUST 6TH – AUGUST 14TH)

Invocation of the Holy Spirit, etc
1. OPENING PRAYER:
Lord Jesus Christ, You have destroyed the power of death and given the hope of eternal
life for body and soul. You granted your Mother a special place in your glory, and did not
allow decay to touch her body. As we rejoice in the Assumption of Mary, grant us
renewed confidence in the victory of life over death.
Give me, O Jesus, a great devotion to your most Holy Mother. Help me to love her as
you loved her, please her as you did and to honour her as I honour no other. Put into my
heart an unwavering confidence in your Sweet Mother and mine, so that I may run to her
when tempted or distressed. Amen.

2. NOVENA PRAYER:
Mary, Queen Assumed into Heaven, I rejoice that after years of heroic martyrdom on
earth, you have at last been taken to the throne prepared for you in heaven by the Holy
Trinity. Lift my heart with you in the glory of your Assumption above the dreadful such of
sin and impurity. Teach me how small earth becomes when viewed from heaven. Make
me realize that death is the triumph and gate through which I shall pass to your son, and
that, someday, my body shall join my soul in the unending bliss in heaven. From this
earth over which I tread as a pilgrim, I look to you for help. In honour of your Assumption
into heaven, I ask for this favour (mention your request)

When my hour of death has come, lead me safely to the presence of Jesus to enjoy the
vision of my God for all eternity together with you. Amen.

1:38)
Lord Jesus, open our hearts to the Holy Spirit and make your home in us. O most Blessed
Mother, you accepted, without doubt or hesitation, the awesome privilege and challenge God
placed upon you to be Mother of His Son, grant me gift of faith and then courage to face the
trials of this troubled world today. Give me strength to remain to the word of the Lord. Amen.

O Mary, my dear Mother and Queen, take and receive my poor heart with all its freedom and
desires, all its love and all virtues and grace with which it may be adorned. All I am, all I have
and hold in order of nature as well as of grace, I have received from God through your loving
intercession, my Lady and Queen. Into your sovereign hands I entrust all that it may be returned
to its noble origin.
Mary, Queen of every heart, accept all that I am and bind me to you with the bonds of love that I
may be yours forever, and may be able to say in all truth “I belong to Jesus through Mary”. My
Mother assumed into heaven, I love you. Give me a greater love for Jesus and for you. Mary,
Assumed into Heaven and Queen of the Universe, ever-Virgin Mother of God, obtain peace and
salvation for us through your prayers, for you have given birth to Christ the Lord, the Saviour of
mankind, Amen.

SECOND DAY
“Blessed art thou amongst women and blessed is the fruit of thy womb” (Luke 1:42)
O God, by your divine decree, the word was made flesh in the womb of the Virgin Mary. May
her intercession strengthen our devotion to her as truly the Mother of God. Lord Jesus, give us
the Spirit of generosity that we may serve you unreservedly in others. Incline your ear to your
mother’s petitions for us and help us to walk steadfast in your path. Amen. Our Lady Assumed

THIRD DAY
“Mary kept in mind all these things, pondering in her heart” (Luke 2:9)
O Mary, through the conception and birth of your son, our Lord Jesus Christ, you accepted an
enormous responsibility. Yet, you bore it graciously and cheerfully and without complaint. Help
us your children to accept with joy our own calling in life. May we share with you and your son
the joy of having courageously faced up to all the challenges of life. Amen. Our Lady Assumed

FOURTH DAY:
“And she gave birth to her first born Son and wrapped him in swaddling bands and laid
him in a manger’. (Luke 2:7-8)

O Blessed Mother, thank you for accepting God’s call to be the mother of His son. Through you
the Word came to dwell amongst us. Lord Jesus be born again in us today as you born in the
flesh 2000 years ago. Help me to see you in the world and in all human beings. Jesus, the same
yesterday, today and forever. Amen. Our Lady Assumed into Heaven, Pray for us.
FIFTH DAY
“Every firstborn male shall be designated as holy to the Lord” (Luke2:25)

Lord Jesus, let me first be pruned so that I may bear fruit and witness to the salvation you
brought to the world. Amen. O Mother of our savour, as we too bring our children to church to
consecrate them to God, give us the wisdom to guide them in the right path and to make the
most of their baptism. Amen. Our Lady Assumed into Heaven, Pray for us.
SIX DAY
“And sword will pierce through your own soul also, that the thoughts of many hearts
may be revealed” (Luke 2:35)
O Blessed Mother! what a model you are of total resignation to the will of God. In atonement for
the offences heaped upon you by the blasphemous and the irreverent, we your children will
praise and honour you as truly the Mother of God. I ask forgiveness for myself and the grace of

SEVENTH DAY
“Behold in sorrow your Father and I have been seeking for you” (Luke 2:48-49)
O Blessed Virgin Mary, even as God’s own Mother you sometimes found it hard to understand
His ways. Grant me the grace, patience and forbearance to abide by his will always and to
remain ever obedient to his commandments. Lord Jesus, grant me the grace to imitate you in

EIGHT DAY
“What will you have me do woman? My hour has not yet come” (Jn 2:4)
O Gracious and tender Virgin Mary, through your intercession, Jesus performed His first miracle
before his time had come. Continue to intercede for us with him so that through his divine love

NINTH DAY
“Woman behold your Son” (Jn. 19:26)
O ever loving Virgin Mary, during his agony on the cross, your Divine son committed the whole
human race to you. Help us, guide us in time of need and keep us always in your care until we
