Dear Madam:
In celebration of the National Reading Month held every November as spearheaded by the Department of
Education, the English Department of Pilar National Comprehensive High School would like to conduct a
series of activity to honor the annual celebration. The activity will be dubbed as READING FEST 2018. It
will be conducted at Pilar National Comprehensive High School, Marifosque, Pilar, Sorsogon on
November 12-28, 2018.
1. support the DepEd Ten-Point Agenda 2017-2022 entitled Quality, Accessible, Relevant and
Liberating Basic Agenda Education for All
2. strengthen the DepEd ‘s Every Child A Reader Program, making every Filipino child a
competent reader and writer appropriate for his/her grade/level; and
3. to impart fun-filled activities to students and facilitators while learning and appreciating the
art of reading
In this regard, we would like to ask for your kind permission to allow us to conduct the said project on
November 12-28, 2018 at Pilar National Comprehensive High School, Marifosque, Pilar, Sorsogon?
Attached herewith are the proposal and the schedule of the proposed activities for the said event.
The English Department of Pilar National Comprehensive High School hopes for a positive response for

II. Objectives:

III. Rationale:
The Department of Education has spearheaded the annual nationwide celebration of the
National Reading Month, and as part of the proud agency, the Pilar National Comprehensive
High School embraces the widespread extensive campaign for reading. Hence, the English
Department conceptualized a series of activities to commemorate the said celebration.
VI. Methodology:
Guided by the detailed plan of activities, the English Department will lead the conduct of
each of the activities as scheduled.
Materials, equipment and other devices will be prepared prior to the schedule and will be
furnished to the concerned working committee or activity in-charge.
Meeting with the Reading Camp participants shall be conducted prior to the activity for
orientation and guidance.
Activity in-charge shall prepare documentation about the event to be consolidated as the
school’s narrative report in conducting the 2017 National Reading Month celebration.

1. All bonafide learners from Grade 7-12 of Pilar NCHS will participate for this contest.
2. All the English teachers will facilitate the contest, as motivating activity during their schedule
class time.
3. The students will be given a word or words to spell for the day.
4. The winning students will receive a special prize from the facilitator.
SHARE A BOOK
All learners and school administrators are encouraged to bring and share their own story books
for children. Furthermore, all teaching and non-teaching personnel and guests to DepEd
conferences are likewise encouraged to share a story book. A drop box shall be displayed for
such purpose.
1. The English Coordinators will inform the students about the activity during the flag
ceremony wherein all learners, teachers and school administrators are encouraged to bring
and share their own story books for children.
2. Drop boxes shall be put to the strategic area in school and assigned teachers and students
shall monitor the duration of the activity from November 20-28, 2017.
3. Activity In-charge teachers shall likewise coordinate and place drop boxes in the LGU
offices and private establishments.
4. Collected books shall be distributed to identified 100 learners who will be invited to the
Birthday Book Party.
1. The contest is open to all bonafide PNCHS students from Grade 7-12.
2. Each participant should submit one (1) entry only.
3. The materials for the contest will be provided for the participants.
4. The essay will be based on a photo presented.
5. The essay shall follow the paragraph structure (composing the introduction, body and
conclusion).
6. The essay shall be written on the spot for 1 hour.
7. The essay will be judged according to the following criteria:

3. The contestants should compose an original free-verse or rhyme poem relevant to the theme
4. The contestants must memorize the piece and deliver it within a minimum of three (3)
minutes and maximum of five (5) minutes.
5. The poster must illustrate, interpret and emphasize the theme

4. The questions will be categorized under easy, average and difficult. Each category will consist
of 10 questions. The easy category will correspond to 1 point each; the average is 3 points
each; and the difficult is 5 points each.
5. The group with the highest score will be declared as the winner.

READING FEST

1. The contest is open to all bonafide PNCHS students from Grade 7-12 who attended the
seminar prior to the contest.
2. The contestant should be given a topic.
3. The contestant will be given 1 minute to prepare about the chosen topic
4. The contestant must deliver it within a minimum of three (3) minutes and maximum
of five (5) minutes.
5. The delivery will be judged according to the following:

4. Participants shall use props whenever necessary.

3. The contestants shall recite the piece with vocal and other effects in five (5) to seven
(7) minutes.
4. The contest piece should be provided.
5. The contestant will be given one (1) hour to prepare for the given piece.
6. The delivery will be judged according to the following:

3. The time allotment for each presentation will be five minutes including the entrance
and exit.
4. The contestant must deliver it within a minimum of three (3) minutes and maximum
of five (5) minutes.

Flash Fiction
1. The contest is open to all bonafide PNCHS students from Grade 7-12 who attended
the seminar prior to the contest.
2. The contests shall be given one (1) hour to write their flash fiction strictly
composed of 250 words or less.
3. The facilitators will provide for the genre and situation for the flash fiction.
4. Flash fiction writers shall observe good characterization, conflict and a symbol or
metaphor. Basic elements such as setting, dialogues and resolution of conflict shall
be dealt with creativity through techniques such as imagery, local colors and
others.
5. The flash fictions will be judged according to the following:

1. All participants of the Parade of Literary Characters shall have an exposure and
presentation of their costumes.
2. Each grade level shall choose a representative who will deliver a chosen line form their
chosen literary piece and character.
LITERARY PAGEANT
1. The participants shall prepare Literary attire and Combat attire for the
chosen character.
2. Question and Answer portion shall comprise the 20% of the overall criteria.
3. Each year level shall have a male and female representative.

FILM SHOWING
The English teachers will choose essential and appropriate movies for all learners from
Grade 7 to 12. They will oversee the conduct of the event to monitor the attendance of their
students. All interested students can watch the movies to be viewed according to their year level.
