1. Define the National Building Code.

Answer: The National Building Code is a set of rules and regulations pertaining to the
construction of all real estate projects and buildings here in the Philippines. In short, if you’re
going to build something, you better make sure that the materials and the actual process of
constructing the house or building should be in line with all the provisions stated in the
National Building Code.

2. Define the Fire Code.

Answer: Fire Code is the policy of the State to ensure public safety, promote economic
through the prevention and suppression of all kinds, of destructive fires, and promote the
professionalization of the fire service as a profession. It is from the REPUBLIC ACT NO.
9514- AN ACT ESTABLISHING A COMPREHENSIVE FIRE CODE OF THE PHILIPPINES,
REPEALING PRESIDENTIAL DECREE NO. 1185 AND FOR OTHER PURPOSES:

In SECTION 1. This Act shall be known as the “Fire Code of the Philippines of 2008”.

SECTION 2. It is the policy of the State to ensure public safety, promote economic
development through the prevention and suppression of all kinds, of destructive fires, and
promote the professionalization of the fire service as a profession. Towards this end, the
State shall enforce all laws, rules and regulations to ensure adherence to standard fire
prevention and safety measures, and promote accountability in the fire protection and
prevention service.

3. Define the National Plumbing Code.

Answer: The basic principles of the 1999 National Plumbing Code of the Philippines is an
update of the tenets established in the "Plumbing Law of the Philippines" approved on 18
June 1955 as amended on 28 November 1959.

4. Define the Sanitation Code.

Answer: Presidential Decree No. 856/Code on Sanitation of the Philippines. Enacted in


December 23, 1975. To prescribe sanitation requirements for food establishments and
refuse collections and disposal system of cities and municipalities.

5. Why are these Codes important in our industry?

Answer: From the National Building Code, Fire Code, National Plumbing Code and
Sanitation Code, all are implemented to guide and set a standard in constructing a building
as well as giving importance to the safety of the people. The importance of codes covers
safety, health, resiliency, and energy efficiency in constructing building. In large part, these
codes establish a building’s quality, safety and energy performance for years to come,
because initial design and construction decisions determine operational and maintenance
costs for the life of the building.
