1. State an example of Oral and Written tradition from the Bible and how it
transformed your life to become a better Christian in the context of being a: a)
Student, b? Daughter/son, 3. Citizen. 30pts
Oral Tradition
The Last Supper contains phrases in which show that it has been passed through
the Greek-speaking community as well as the Jewish community. One in particular is the
word “that”. In Scripting Jesus, L. Michael White, it is noteworthy that in Greek oral
tradition the word “that” is used as means to quote something. This suggests that what Paul
is saying in 1 Corinthians is likely to have been passed down from the oral tradition. Thus,
making it likely he has received this information from elsewhere. Although Paul’s account
of the Last Supper is the earliest recollection of the event, it still shows an evolution of oral
tradition (White, 114). The basic story of the Last Supper is consistent between the four
Gospels in this way: Jesus’ body is compared to the loaf of bread, his blood is related to the
cup; however, the wording and patterns vary between traditions of Jewish and Greek
culture, therein White suggests that there are indeed subtle manipulations of the oral
traditions that are present when comparing the phrasing in Mark and Matthew and Paul’s
letters to Corinth.
Written Tradition
The stories of faith now recorded in the Old Testament, which were handed down
from one generation to another were finally put down into writing; firstly, in very crude
forms, like tablets of stones, barks of trees, skins of animals or papyrus. The oral traditions
that had happened where written independently and on the later part, The New Testament
also underwent the same process.
a) Student- It transformed my life to become a better Christian in the context of being
student because today, I needed the Bible to become my guide. It is the food for my soul
and it gives discernment to my mind. If the Bible didn’t undergo a long and crucial process,
turning it into a book will most likely be impossible to exist. As a student, it's important to
study the Bible because God's Word guides me in the right direction in life. 2 Timothy
2:15 tells me that I should study and show God that I understand truth. This verse refers to
knowing God's word and being able to point out false teachings and philosophies, but it
applies to education as well. As a student, I should indulge myself in my work and be the
best I can be. Bible also gives me hope every time I felt like giving up.

b) Daughter- It transformed my life to become a better Christian in the context of being a

daughter in a way that it makes me realize that Family is at the center of God's plan for the
happiness and progress of His children. The Holy Bible teaches that God established my
family from the very beginning, and it shows makes us a strong family. It also teaches me
how to become a loving, and happy member of a family. It also taught me how to be
obedient to my parents and to elderly.

c) Citizen- It transformed my life to become a better Christian in the context of being a

Citizen by making me a good one. In Philippians 2:14-15, it says there that "Do all things
without complaining and disputing, that you may become blameless and harmless, children
of God". This reminds me to always do my part and not be dependent to the government so
that there will be nothing to complain about.
