The amount of water on Earth remains constant. But its form is always
changing from solid to liquid, from liquid to gas, and back again. It moves
in a pattern called the water cycle. Heat from the sun causes water in
oceans, lakes, and rivers to evaporate into water vapor. Further vapor is
given off by plants and animals.
