PLAINS PEANUT FESTIVAL POSTPONED – The Plains Peanut Festival set for September 25 has been postponed until September
22-24, 2022. Officials said, “It is with great disappointment that the Friends of Jimmy Carter Organization has decided that is would
be in the best interest of all participants to once again postpone the Plains Peanut Festival until September 2022.” President Carter
will celebrate his 97th birthday on October 1. Happy Birthday to America’s most famous peanut farmer.

2021 PEANUT CROP –Production is forecast at 6.35 billion pounds (3,174,075 tons) down 4 percent from the previous forecast but
up 3 percent from 2020. Acreage updates were made in several States based on a thorough review of all available data. Planted area, at
1.58 million acres is down 3 percent from the previous estimate and down 5 percent from the 2020 planted area. Area harvested is
expected to total 1.53 million acres, down 3 percent from the previous forecast and down 5 percent from 2020. Based on conditions
as of September 1, the average yield for the United States is forecast at 4,141 pounds per acre, down 42 pounds per acre from the
previous forecast but up 345 pounds per acre from 2020. Record high yields are forecasted in Alabama and South Carolina. Seventy-
six percent of the United States peanut acreage was rated in good to excellent.
