Task Summary 
Choose one of the following options for the ‘Back in Vogue’ task. Each option is assessed against the 
same achievement standards. 

Option 1: 

1. The past 

Present  on  an  appropriately  scaled  timeline,  the  important  history  of  your  chosen  popular  culture 
medium (see the options in Part 2). You can present this timeline in hard copy or a digital form. 

2. The present 

Choose  at  least  three  of  the  inquiry  questions  below,  and  complete  research  into  one  form  of 
popular  culture  medium.  Present  your  findings  in  any  format  other  than  the  traditional  modes 
(Word/Docs/PowerPoint/Slides).

How have globalisation and technology influenced the consumption  fashion

Have people valued this popular culture differently over time (e.g.  music 
hated but now loved, or vice versa)? 

What is it about this popular culture and how it is consumed that  sport 
has changed, and what has stayed the same? 

How do different groups of people either accept or reject this type  toys 
of popular culture? 
 

3. The near future (5-10 years) 

You  will  also  need  to  consider  the  future  of your chosen popular culture medium. Your task is to, in 


300-400 words: 

- determine  current  trends  and  suggest  probable  future  directions  for  your  chosen  popular 
culture 
- evaluate  the  impact  and  implications  for  the  popular  culture  by  considering  likely  changes, 
and probable continuities  
- predict the importance of the popular culture to society in the near future. 

Option 2: 

You  will  be  allocated  an  item/product  that was once world-famous. Your mission will be to convince 


your class that it deserves to make a comeback in 2021.

Within your presentation, you will need to discuss: 

- how the item/product became popular (use a timeline to demonstrate this) 


- who the consumers of this item/product were and where around the world this item/product 
was used 
- how this item/product changed everyday life 
- why this item/product lost its value 
- what this item/product’s purpose could be in 2021 
- what  would  need  to  stay  the  same  for this item/product, and what could change to ensure it 
remained popular
