Q.2. Make a reflection on why Noli Me Tangere and Fili are necessary in Grade 9 and
Grade 10 curriculum.
These two works go further into understanding the battles of a nation, which are
separated by each everyone’s thoughts , beliefs, and moralities whether it’s internal or
external problem. These novels are considered as two of the most recognizable and
productive academic works created by a Filipino none other done our national hero, which
is written in a people construction and presenting its scenario as an immediate relationship
under the Spanish colonial rule.
It is necessary to include these two novels in the curriculum, as stated in the
Republic Act 1425 or also known as An act to include in the curricula of all public and
private schools, colleges and universities courses on the life, works and writings of Jose
Rizal, particularly his novels Noli me Tangere and El Filibusterismo, authorizing the
printing and distribution thereof, and for other purposes.
Some of us might ask why these two works of Jose Rizal are necessary in Grade 9
and Grade 10 curriculum because in my own perspective it is needed to understand for us
not to forget the history of our country and for us to know what he has contributed to our
liberation from the Spaniards. Through the Rizal Act, his life, his achievements, and the
reasons why he is our national hero are refreshed to the people and especially to the youth.
It is easier for teachers to teach about his novels because the copies to be used are non-
doctored and translated only into English. Over time, it has become effective and will
continue to be effective in passing history on to the last generation.
Rizal has played an important role in our history, so as a result, it is only necessary
to return because his works show great devotion and love for our country. It is only right to
go back and study his works because of him or them rather we are in the present.
