Lalaji bay Beach

Lalaji Bay Beach is a beautiful, sandy beach on the west coast of Long Island. We need to
take a fiber boat from the Long Island jetty to get to the very beautiful and picturesque beach.
The route from Long Island to Lalaji Bay Beach is in the midst of the open sea and indeed an
adventurous experience. On the way, the boat will cross through beautiful and unique
mangrove creeks; this is a picture-perfect scenic view which makes the journey much more
memorable. The island has a stretched out white sandy beach with clear water. One can easily
bask in the sun or get immersed in the clean water to give a treat to mind and body.

there are 2 ways to reach Lalaji Bay Island, One is to take a chartered fiber boat from Long Island to
Lalaji Bay and the second option is to through trekking. Hiring a Boat for this trip is a bit expensive
yet comfortable, whereas the trekking option is economic and takes effort.

The Andaman and Nicobar Islands, located in the east of the Indian mainland geographically, float in
splendid isolation in the Bay of Bengal. Once a hill range extending from Myanmar to Indonesia,
these picturesque undulating islands, islets numbering around 836, are covered with dense rain-fed,
damp and evergreen forests and endless varieties of exotic flora and fauna. Most of these islands
(about 550) are in the Andaman Group, 28 of which are inhabited. The smaller Nicobars, comprise
some 22 main islands (10 inhabited). The Andaman and Nicobars are separated by the Ten Degree
Channel which is 150 Kms. wide.

These islands also boast of freedom fighting days’ historically significant landmarks viz. Cellular Jail,
Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose Island, Viper Island, Hopetown and Mount Harriet. The Andaman and
Nicobar Islands have been declared as two of the 218 endemic bird area of the world. As many as 270
species and sub-species of birds have been reported existing in these islands, 106 of them being
endemic. The Andaman Wood Pigeon, Andaman Padauk and Dugong are declared as State Bird, State
Tree and State Animal respectively. There are about 96 Wildlife Sanctuaries, nine National Parks and
one Biosphere Reserve in the islands. These islands are blessed with the bounties of both south-west
and north-east monsoons.

Deliverables by Students:

Students are expected to design this 42-acre site according to the environmental and CRZ
Clearance It is proposed that the project shall be developed in environmentally sustainable
manner and upfront Environmental and CRZ clearance shall be obtained by the Authority.
The process followed for obtaining upfront Environmental and CRZ clearance are as under:

1. The following documents/reports were prepared and submitted for Environmental and
CRZ clearance: a. Report on infrastructure requirement and management measures, site
zoning, site suitability and carrying capacity analysis by M/s IPE Global Ltd.

b. CRZ map and disaster management report prepared by National Centre for Sustainable
Coastal Management (NCSCM).

c. Brine water discharge modelling carried out by National Institute of Ocean Technology
(NIOT). d. Environment Management Plan (EMP) prepared by WAPCOS Ltd
