Valves V1 and V2 can be controlled
electrically and separately. Each valve
preloads its own compression spring
when the plunger opens. When the two 11

valves are open, a pressure pulse runs

below the working diaphragm. The size 16

of the pressure pulse changes as a fac- 13

tor of the variable restrictor position D. 9

Duonit®: innovative compact cylindrical burner with a round head

Application
To complement existing proven and successful product
lines, Furipat®, Aconit® and Furinit®, we have combined
the best of Aconit® and Furinit®. The result of this innova-
tion is Duonit®: a hybrid comprising an Aconit® cylindrical
burner in combination with a Furinit® round head. The Duo-
nit® gas burner can be installed into a heat exchanger with
a long combustion chamber. The flames on the head of the
Duonit® allow you to reduce significantly the height of the gas
burner in relation with the length of the combustion chamber.
The Duonit® has considerable size and shape options and a
Duonit® is combining the Aconit® technology with that of the Furinit®. 66
This means that you get all the best from both types of burner concept.
Furinit® with its excellent modulation properties and very high loading,
Aconit® with its robust and proven design. This combination offers you
a wide range of combinations in diameter and length and an equally
wide range in distributing heat load between the cylindrical part and
the end cap.

Duonit® is based on the unique Bekaert Bekinit® material. Thanks to

its excellent heat resistance, insulation characteristics and flexibility,
this material is used as gas burner surface media. The knitted structure
is based on ultra thin, high temperature resistant stainless steel fibres.
This in combination with the knitting process makes a burner surface
that has superior properties to any other burner surface. The Bekinit®
structure is completely 3-dimensional creating loops that give flexibility,
excellent insulation and the best possible cooling to the flame. It is
designed to last the life of the boiler and to endure normal service and
cleaning operations.
Duonit® is a product of:

Innovative technologies
Every new burner design is made with one goal in mind: achieving the highest efficiency and cost effectiveness.
To make this possible Bekaert developed new and innovative technologies:

Low NOx premix technology

Burners that use premix technology in combination with a condensing heat exchanger maximize the efficiency of the
heat cell and limit their emission of NOx, CO and CO2. With the recent enforcement of new emission standards for
gas boilers in Europe, the US and Asia, premix technology offers the perfect solution to manufacturers who need to
conform to the new regulations.

Combined with gas adaptive control electronics, Bekaert premix burners offer the highest efficiency at lowest emissions.
Bekaert premix burners support high modulation ranges. Innovative features in the burner provide a stable flame signal,
even at very low outputs.

Bekinit® 3D metal fiber material

Bekinit® is a uniquely knitted 3D burner material made of refractory stainless steel fibers. This industry proven flexible
medium can be used for both cylindrical and flat burner surfaces. It allows a reliable heat transfer, minimizes thermal
stresses and allows for high modulation ranges.

Benefits:
• increased output at equal burner dimensions
• high turn down ratios (>1:20)
• extended lifetime
• superior resistance to rapid and extreme temperature fluctuations
68

Why choose Bekaert?

We listen
A dedicated team of qualified engineers is ready to assist you with the development of gas burners and their application
in various heating appliances. We can also investigate the possibilities of upgrading your existing design together,
resulting in innovative, customized solutions.

We create
All our burners are completely produced in-house. This gives us full control over the manufacturing process; from
knitting the material, to the punching, forming, welding and assembly of the burners. We are able to provide proto-
types and pre-production samples at any time during development.

We simulate
Demands of the heating industry are focused on high efficiency and low NOx emissions. Through our experience and
capability to model the process we can swiftly and reliably develop burners with low NOx and CO emissions.

We test
High modulating premix burners are exposed to much higher temperatures than conventional gas burners.
This results in low NOx emissions but it requires higher temperature resistance and careful consideration on
temperature induced stresses. To create a reliable product, we test numerous functions in the lab. Then we expose
new burner designs to accelerated life-tests to prove durability of design and material on any type of gas. This
streamlines your time to market and retains the quality you expect from Bekaert.

Our multiple testing facilities include

• an acoustics test room,
• a temperature controlled test room,
• life-time test equipment for burners and boilers up to 4 MBTU/h
• state-of-art equipment to measure emissions, temperature curves and fluid dynamics.

We deliver
All of our burners comply with the highest local, national and global standards and demands. Trends for more
stringent demands are monitored and taken into consideration with new developments.

Certificate in Evidence Based Medicine

Evidence based medicine (EBM) is the cornerstone of medical decision making. Although the
concept has been around for nearly 20 years the principles and practice of EBM is not always
clearly understood.

If you are working in the health field and need to make decisions regarding therapeutic efficacy or
need to convince others of the need for scientific based choices then you need a basic
understanding of the principles of clinical trials, pharmaco-economics and evidence based
medicine.

The University of Pretoria (Division of Clinical Epidemiology, School of Health Systems and
Public Health) in collaboration with the PCMA (Pharmaceutical Care Management Association)
has put together 3 two day workshops that can provide you with this essential knowledge

1) Workshop 1: Intervention Research and Clinical Trials

2) Workshop 2: Pharmaco-economics
3) Workshop 3: Evidence Based Medicine and critical appraisal of the literature

These workshops can also be attended on their own (each with their own certificate of
attendance). If you complete all three (not necessarily in a single year) you qualify for the
Certificate in Evidence Based Medicine. Assessment is done via a single assignment after each
workshop.

Please contact us if you or your company is interested.
