LIFE OF VEN. MARIA

PILAR GUILLON
YTURRIAGA
She was born in Madrid on May 29, 1911, in the bosom of
a very religious family. On 28 June was baptized in the
parish of San Ginés; made the First Communion at the
Blanca de Castilla school, in Madrid. The first-born of four
siblings, she was single and dedicated herself to the care
of her parents, in particular of her sick father.
The experience of faith, lived at home, it favored her
spiritual life and h34 commitment to the Church. On July
16, 1936she moved to Astorga, where she was from, and
where she enjoyed prestige and moral respect

LIFE OF VEN. OCTAVIA
IGLESIAS BLANCO
She was a second cousin of Ven. Mª Pilar
She was born on November 30, 1894 in Astorga (León) and
she was baptized on December 9 in the parish of San Julián.
Also she grew up in a family characterized by deep religiosity,
who took care of the commitment to virtues and apostolic
works, among them the foundation of the convent of the
MM. Redemptorists of Astorga, where a sister of his was
consecrated religious.
The Servant of God was in charge of caring, first, to his old
and sick father, and then to his widowed mother; belonged to
Catholic Action and to the associations of the Daughters of
Mary and of the Sacred Heart.

LIFE OF VEN. OLGA


PÉREZ-MONTESERÍN
NÚÑEZ
She was born in Paris on March 16, 1913 of parents of
Spanish origin, who returned to Astorga in 1920.
Olga, the second of three siblings, received Baptism on July
5 in the parish of San Francisco Javier, in Paris.

Single, she dedicated herself to family life and artistic work,


in particular to the art of painting, thanks to the gift
inherited from her father, a famed painted from Leon
MARTYRDOM OF THE
NURSE-MARTYRS
On October 8, 1936, the 3 new Blesseds were assigned to
take care of the wounded soldiers in the war front of the
Somiedo mountain ranges, through shift work.

On the 27th of the same month, the Workers Union of Spain


defeated the army in Somiedo and took all as captives,
including the nurses, who were taken to Pola de Somiedo,
underwent a trial in the war committee, and were seriously
raped, abused, and humiliated by the soldiers.

On the 28th of October, the 3 nurses were brought to a


meadow in the town, and were stripped of their clothing,
before being executed by militiawomen by gunfire, while
shouting "Viva Cristo Rey!

The descendants of Ven. Ma Pilar Gullon

CAUSE FOR Yturriaga petitioned the Diocese of Astorga to


open the Cause for Canonization of Ven. Ma.

CANONIZATION Pilar and her 2 companion martyrs.

The Cause was granted a rescript of nihil


obstat on Nov. 30, 2005, with the Diocesan
Inquiry lasted from March 24, 2006 to March
17, 2007. The Positio of the Cause was
submitted by the Diocese of Astorga to the
Congregation for the Causes of Saints in 2016

On June 11, 2020, Pope Francis promulgated


the Decree of Recognition of Martyrdom for
the 3 nurses, paving the way for their
Beatification?
