Verb Form Examples

Person
(who or what is speaking, First person singular: I go.
being spoken to, or being Second person singular: You go.
spoken about and it can be Third person singular: She goes. He goes. It goes

First person plural: We go.
Second person plural: You go.
Third person plural: They go.
Number
(how many people or things one person/thing: I swim. The turtle swims.

two or more people/things: We swim. The turtles swim.
Tense
(when the action is taking Present tense: The door squeaks today.
place) Past tense: The door squeaked yesterday.
Future tense: Unless it is oiled, the door will squeak tomorrow.
Mood
(what kind of attitude is Indicative (a fact statement or asking a question about fact) : The coyote howled.

Imperative (command): Stay away from the coyoute!

Subjunctive (expressing an unreal situation, speculation about something, a recommendation or


demand, or an indirect request and wish): If I were you, I will not approach the coyote.

Voice
(whether the subject is Active (the subject in doing the action of the verb): The teacher ordered new library books.
