ACTIVITY. 3

1.A 7.5 L sample of N2 gas is determined to contain 0.75 moles of nitrogen. How
many moles of nitrogen gas would there be in a 20.L sample provide that the
temperature and pressure remain the same?
Given:
V1 = 7.5L V 2= 20.0L
n1= 0.75 mol n 2= ____mol
Formula V1/n1 = V2/n2 or V1 n2 = V2 n1

Solution V1 n2 = V2 n1
(7.5L) n2 = (20.0L) ( 0.75 mol)
7.5 L 7.5 L
= 2.0 mols
2.A 1.5 mole of a gas has a volume of 1.6L at certain temperature and pressure.
Find the new volume of this gas if 2 moles are added to the original volume under
the same conditions.
Given:
V1 = 1.6 L V 2= __ L
n1= 1.5 mol n2= 1.5 mole + 2 moles =3.5
Formula V1/n1 = V2/n2 or V1 n2 = V2 n1

Solution V1 n2 = V2 n1
(1.6L) (3.5 mole) = (1.5 mole) (V2)
1.5 mole 1.5 mole

V2 = 3.73 L
