BODY

INSTRUCTIONS
TIPS
MAKE IT STAND

To enable the amigurumi to stand, after finishing stuffing you will need
to use the yarn tail as follows:
Thread the yarn in a needle, insert the needle down through the
body and through the bottom of the body just next to the Magic
Ring (MR).
Reinsert the needle through the MR centre and through the body,
pulling the MR slightly up towards the neck until the bottom is
indented (see photos below). Keeping tension, insert the needle
through the MR centre again then back up towards the neck.
Knot the thread into the side of the neck to anchor the bottom of
the amigurumi but take care not to misshape or distort the neck.
Sew the leftover yarn through the stuffing a couple of times to
hide the yarn then cut. Weave in the yarn end. Fun facts
See photos below. Koalas:
1. Iconic Australian animals living in the
eucalyptus forests of Australia
2. Northern koalas have grey fur and
southern koalas have brown fur
3. They are not bears, but related to
kangaroo and the wombat
4. The mother koala has a pouch to
keep her offspring
5. Baby koala is called a 'Joey'
6. A newborn koala is tiny, around only
2cm long, living in its mother's pouch
for six or seven months
7. May sleep for 18 - 22 hours
8. Life span is 20 years

Sew the pieces together in the following order:
Using sewing pins, fix all the parts in position first
Head: Sew the head to body first. Use sewing pins to fix the head to make sure you are happy with how the koala

(Optional: Position the head slightly tilted on one side.) For the ears, temporarily sew into the head to

Nose: Use sewing pins to attach the nose to head. The bottom of

Ears: Sew ears to the head between round 10 & 11. They should be
16-17 stitches away from the centre of head. See tips to make sure
the koala can still stand.

EYES

INSTRUCTIONS
Use black lace yarn to embroider the eyes at round 15 - 17, 8 stitches away from each other (or 2-3
stitches away from the nose), 3 stitches wide and sew the eyelash at the end. Use pins to mark the
eyes like the 1st photo.
Start off from the side of head, needle to come out of the top of one eye.
Use marking pins, mark the shape of eyes. Wrap black thread to form the eye to check if you are
happy before sewing. Remove the pins at the top and the other corner of eye.
Insert needle through the bottom corner of eye, needle to come out of the side of eye (middle
photos).
Insert the needle in the same hole it comes out of to form a loop around the eye line to secure its
position. Gently pull tight. Embroider the eyelash(es) in the far corner.
To achieve a smiley eye look, use the needle to lift up the eyelid slightly (see the 5th photo)
Go round the eyelid two or three times loosely to make it look thicker than the eyelash(es).
Use the end of the tail to embroider the eyebrows 7-8 rounds above the eyes,
2 stitches wide, 7 stitches apart.
