DRAFT 1
(SUBMITTED ON FEBRUARY 14, 2011)

Project Introduction

We will be speaking about the different processes in an electronic store i.e Next by which the
goods i.e the mobile phones are procured to when the are sold.

Process Description

The flow structure of the process used to procure or deliver a product or service impacts
facility layout, resources, technology decisions, and work methods. The process architecture
may be an important component in the firm's strategy for building a competitive advantage.

Process 1: To Procure the goods:

Place an order: As per the store’s requirement an order is placed with its regional
warehouse. Mumbai is divided into different regions and each region is assigned a warehouse
and a regional stores manager. The regional stores manager is in charge of inspecting the
goods available and required in the stores in his territory. Based on his findings, he places a
purchase Order with the Head office and procures the goods from different vendors. The
regional warehouse for the retail store of Next in Borivli is at Goregaon.

The store doesn’t have to deal with the Head Office at all. All its procurements are done
through the regional warehouse only.

(5)
Approval of the order: The regional warehouse notes/ inspects the order and as per its
availability, approves of it. If the order is not readily available, another order is placed with
the regional warehouse and in the mean while, the stores manager orders the goods from the
head office. However, if the order is readily available, it is then delivered to the concerned
retail stores within two days.

Once the order is received in the stores, an entry is made in the stores ledger and the goods
are kept for display as per the requirements.

If there are any goods that were ordered as per the customers desire, the concerned customer
is called about the availability of the same so that he may come and purchase it from the
stores. The goods are then sold to the customer on prompt payment from his side.

Process 2: Sales

Most of their sales takes place because of customer walk-in’s itself.

Customer Contact: The customers generally walk in the store to choose and select the
mobile of their choice. They are provided with a wide range of mobile phones of different
brands and different models of each brand to select from. For their easy selection, the sales
agent also guides them by providing various product related information. Based on all the
information he receives, the customer either decides to buy or not to buy the product.

Once the customer has made his selection:

 If the piece is readily available the person in charge will directly prepare a receipt for
the same and sell it to the customer on prompt payment from his side.
 If the piece is not immediately available at hand, the sales person in charge collects
the contact details of the customer and makes an entry for placing the order for the
same with the regional warehouse. Once the goods are procured, the concerned
customer is informed about the same so that he can visit the retail stores and collect
the product.
