Title: Electricity Consumption

Aim: To calculate electrical consumption using meter readings.

Materials: Active electrical meter

Procedure:
1. Observe the electrical meter on the house at the beginning of the day for 7 days. Ensure
to take the reading at the same time each day. These are to be considered as your initial
meter readings.
2. Observe the electrical meter on the house at the end of the day for the same 7 days.
Ensure to take the reading at the same time each day. These are to be considered as
your final meter readings.
3. Tabulate all results obtained and calculate the electrical consumption for each day.
4. Plot a graph of Electrical consumption against Number of days.

Results and Observations:

Day Initial reading Final Reading Electrical Consumption

Discussion:
1. What is an electricity meter used for? (1 mark)
2. Fill in the initial reading and final reading section of the table. (14 marks)
3. Calculate the electrical consumption for each day using the formula
Electrical consumption=Final reading−Initial reading (7 marks)
4. Using your graph
a) Which day was the most amount of current consumed? (2 marks)
b) Which day was the least amount of current consumed? (2 marks)
5. State TWO ways we can save electricity. (4 marks)
