ENGAGE AND ENRICH

Performance Task –PLANTERS FOR A CAUSE (100 pts)
Directions: Some baranggays in Lapu-Lapu City are experiencing food shortage and hunger because of the pandemic. Due
to the demand for food, SACS–CIP plans to address the problem by encouraging the CIP recipients establish
community vegetable garden. In line with this, you are going to make one (1) upcycled vegetable planter using
1.5 liters (L) plastic bottle. This is also to address one of our major problems, waste matter scattered all around.
You are also going to provide a vegetable plant to be planted in it. The output will be donated to the adopted
areas of the school. In this way, we can help the community from the shortage of food supply. This output is
initiated by the CIP office and integrated with the different subjects such as CLE, Science, Math, Social Studies,
and Arts subjects. It will be graded by the different subject areas accordingly. The CLE subject will check the
plants. The Science, Math, Social Studies, and Arts subjects will check the material used, dimensions,
sustainability, and designs, respectively. For Science subject, refer on the next page for the rubric. Submit your
planters on or before September 20, 2021 at SACS covered court.

Procedure:
1. Prepare the following materials:
a. 1.5 L empty plastic bottle
b. Pair of scissors/ cutter
c. Art materials (Please refer to the list of art materials instructed by your Arts teacher.)

2. Position your plastic bottle horizontally. You can cut the bottle in two ways. First option, is by using your pair of
scissors or cutter, cut the 1.5 L empty plastic bottle vertically, make sure the height of your planter should be at
least half of its original size. See Figure 1. Punch a hole at the bottom. Second option, is to locate the center of the
bottle and cut a rectangular-shaped hole. See Figure 2. Punch a hole at the bottom.
