KARNATAKA

RANGANATITTU BIRD SANCTUARY, MANDYA DISTRICT

Roughly 170 bird species have been recorded. Of these,


the painted stork, Asian openbill stork, common spoonbill, woolly-
necked stork, black-headed ibis, lesser whistling duck, Indian
shag, stork-billed kingfisher, egret, cormorant, Oriental darter, spot-
billed pelican and heron breed at Ranganathittu regularly.
MANDAGADDE BIRD SANCTUARY

During season, three types of migratory birds flock to the lush green
environs of the sanctuary and stay till December which are:

 Median egret
 Darter (or snake bird)
 Little cormorant
MAGADI BIRD SANCTUARY

Magadi Bird Sanctuary created at the Magadi tank, it is one of


the biodiversity hotspots of Karnataka.
The bar-headed goose is one of the birds which migrate to Magadi wetlands.
Normally birds eat fish, amphibians, molluscs, snakes etc., but migratory
birds eating agricultural produce is both interesting and curious too. In
the winter it feeds on barley, rice and wheat and it may damage crops.

NAGARHOLE NATIONAL PARK


A Variety Of Species Such As Elephants, Jackals, Tigers, Panthers, Gaurs,
Sambars, Spotted Deers, Mongoose, Civet Cats, Hyenas, Sloth Bears
And Over 250 Species Of Birds, Reptiles Such As King Cobra, Krait, Indian
Rock Python, Russel's Viper, Vine Snake, Tortoise, Monitor Lizard And Toads
Call This Place Their Home. The Park Also Houses Stunning Vegetation And
Plantation Along With Verdant Tropical And Deciduous Forest Land.

BANDIPUR NATIONAL PARK


It is located in the Nilgiris and is the first Biosphere Reserve in India. Spread
over 874 sq km, the park is replete with a wide range of endangered wildlife
like Jackals, Changeable Hawk-Eagle, Kingfisher, Elephants, Hornbills,
Deers, Pythons, Sloth Bears, Pythons, Panthers etc. and multitudes of teak
and sandalwood trees .

NILGIRI BIOSPHERE RESERVE


It Includes The Aralam, Mudumalai, Mukurthi, Nagarhole, Bandipur Silent
Valley National Parks, As Well As The Wayanad, Karimpuzha,
And Sathyamangalam Wildlife Sanctuaries. Over 100 Species Of Mammals, 370
Species Of Birds, 80 Species Of Reptiles, About 39 Species Of Fish, 31
Amphibians And 316 Species Of Butterflies. Mammals Like Bengal Tiger, Indian
Leopard, Black Panther, Gaur, Indian Elephant, Chital Deer, Sambar
Deer, Blackbuck, Indian Brown Mongoose, Honey Badger, Malabar Giant
Squirrel, Nilgiri Marten, And Nilgiri Tahr.  Primates Here Are Lion-Tailed
Macaque, Bonnet Macaque, Nilgiri Langur, And Gray Langur. Reptiles Found
Here Are Indian Python, King Cobra, Indian Cobra, And Mugger Crocodile. Birds
Here Are Indian Peacock, Nilgiri Pipit, Nilgiri Laughing Thrush, Nilgiri
Flycatcher, Great Hornbill, And Malabar Grey Hornbill.
