LESSON NOTE PLAN

THIRD TERM WEEK 6

Date: 14/06/2019 -20/06/2019 Subject: ICT

Period: 1
Name: Ntah Kelvin Class: Basic 8 Average age: 12years
Duration of Lesson: 40minutes
Topic: Classification of Computers (By Generation)
A.BEHAVIOURAL OBJECTIVES (Cognitive, Affective and Psychomotor)
At the end of the lesson, students should be able to:

 State features of 4th generation computers

B.INSTRUCTIONAL MATERIALS:

Computer system, computer studies text book and projector.

C.PREVIOUS KNOWLEDGE:

Students are familiar with history and functions of computers.

D.CONTENT:
1. Classification of computers by generation
-4th generation
E.INTRODUCTION:

Classification refers to the way objects are grouped or categorized. Classification of Computer
system is required in order to fully appreciate the concept of Computing. Computers are classified in
different ways.

F.PRESENTATION (Step by step exposition of the material)

Step 1: Classification by Generation

Fourth Generation
The period of Fourth Generation was 1971-1980.
The circuitry of the fourth generation of computers consists of Very Large Scale Integrated
(VLSI) circuits. In this generation, millions of components could be fitted into one chip called the
Microchip, which resulted in very powerful computers called microcomputers.
In fourth generation, Time sharing, Real time, Networks, Distributed Operating Systems were
used.
1
All the higher level languages like C and C++, DBASE, etc., were used in this generation.
Examples of computers in this generation were:
Dec 10
Star 1000
Cray 1(super computer)
IBM 5100 PC

G.CONTEXTUALIZATION (of the material of the classroom situation):

The teacher uses the computer system and pictures of tools and machines made for each
category of computer to describe the topic.

H.STUDENTS’ ENGAGEMENT IN THE LESSON

The students are engaged with identifying the different category of computers and their
features.
I.REVIEW (by teachers and students of familiar materials):

1. How can you differentiate computers of different generations?

2. What generation of computers are we currently using?
J.EVALUATION (in three learning domains…cognitive, affective, and psychomotor)
QUESTIONS:

1.Mention the operating systems of the 4th generation.

2. State four features of 4th generation

K.CONCLUSION:
Classification of Computer system is required in order to fully appreciate the concept of Computing.
Computer technology has undergone different historical stages and today we have a highly
sophisticated Computer System.

WEEK 6

Date: 14/06/2019 -20/06/2019 Subject: ICT Period: 2

Name: Ntah Kelvin Class: Basic 8 Average age: 12years
Duration of Lesson: 40minutes
Topic: Classification of Computers by generation
A.BEHAVIOURAL OBJECTIVES (Cognitive, Affective and Psychomotor)
At the end of the lesson, students should be able to:
 State features of 5th generation
 Mention examples of artificial intelligence

B.INSTRUCTIONAL MATERIALS:

Computer system, computer studies text book and projector.

C.PREVIOUS KNOWLEDGE:

Students are familiar with Classification of computers by generation and type.

D.CONTENT:
1. Classification of computers by generation
- 5th generation
E.INTRODUCTION:

Classification refers to the way objects are grouped or categorized. Classification of Computer
system is required in order to fully appreciate the concept of Computing. Computers are classified in
different ways.

F.PRESENTATION (Step by step exposition of the material)

Step 1: Fifth Generation

The period of Fifth Generation is 1980-till date.

In the fifth generation, the VLSI technology became ULSI (Ultra Large Scale Integration)
technology.
This generation is based on parallel processing hardware and AI (Artificial Intelligence)
software.
Artificial Intelligence is an emerging branch in computer science which interprets means and
methods of making computers think like human beings. It is called knowledge information
processing system (KIPS).
All the higher level languages like C and C++, Java, .Net, etc., are used in this generation.
Examples of computers in this generation are:
1. Desktop
2. Laptop
3
3. NoteBook
4. UltraBook
5. ChromeBook

1. 1. How can you differentiate computers of different generations?

2. Which generation of computers involved the use of microchips
J.EVALUATION (in three learning domains…cognitive, affective, and psychomotor)
QUESTIONS:

. Name the five generations of computers stating their characteristic features.

2. Explain the difference between 4th and 5th generation computers.
K.CONCLUSION:
Classification of Computer system is required in order to fully appreciate the concept of Computing.
Computer technology has undergone different historical stages and today we have a highly
