**PARENTS – register to receive automated emergency calls from the Franklin County Sheriff Dept.
You will be notified of any emergency situations in Franklin County (for example; emergency school
closings, road closings). Go to www.franklinsheriff.com , on the top right of home page- click on
“Franklin County Florida Emergency Notification System” emblem & complete required information.
**FCS FLAG CORPS Try-Outs: The Marching Seahawk Band is adding a Flag Corps for the 2011-2012
Season. Any student that is interested in trying out, please stop by Mrs. Duhart’s room (1210) for more
information. Eligibility requirements are as follows: • must be in grades 8-11, • have at least a 2.5 GPA, •no
more than one referral for the current school year. Practices will be held May 2-5.
**FCS CHEER Try-Outs: If interested in trying out, student must: • be in grades 6-11, • passing with D or better in 5
solid credits (GPA 2.2 or higher), • have no more than 3 disciplinary referrals for year, • paid all outstanding balances
due in previous years cheerleading/sports, •must be able to attend camp July 13-17. See Ms. Lynn Clark for tryout packet.
Physicals will be scheduled in the next couple of weeks & will be mandatory. Tryouts are April 26-30.
**SENIOR T-SHIRTS: Order shirts during H/S lunch- see Brooke Harper or Joel Williams. Cost- $16.00
**FCAT Reading Re-Take Tutoring: Students required to re-take the FCAT Reading, Ms. Sharon Solomon will
be tutoring Monday-Friday, this week, from 3:15-3:45pm. She is located in the trailer next to the Adult Education trailer at the
Learning Center.
**PROM GLASSES: Juniors & Seniors, if you would like to order prom glasses for you and your date, see Mrs.
Gavigan. Seniors in attendance will receive one free glass. Each glass costs $7.00.
**SCIENCE PROJECT BACK BOARDS: Now on sale - $6.00. See Ms. Buffkin or Ms. Sawyer to purchase.

ACADEMIC INFORMATION
**GCCC Dual Enrollment-Summer & Fall: Registration for the summer & fall terms will be April 11-May 6.
The dual enrollment office will be open until 6:00pm from April 11- April 14 (after these dates, regular office hours
Resume, 8:00am-4:00pm).
**Certified Nursing Assistant Program: Students interested in program need to apply NOW!!! April 29 is the
end date. Contact Pat Wagner, GFC Nursing Secretary @ 227-9670 EXT. 5522. The earlier you apply the better.
SCHOLARSHIPS
-“Will to Win” Scholarship: For students with asthma. See Ms. McGrath in Guidance
-Philaco Women’s Club Scholarship: Due by April 15. Faculty /administration must nominate student.

-Friend of the Reserve Scholarship: Due by April 15. Applications in Mrs. Duhart’s & Guidance
NEW -College for Every Student Scholarship: Due in guidance by April 25. Available to all CFES participates.
One award of a 2 year scholarship plus a $900 annual book voucher will be given at FCS.
NEW -Florida Seafood Festival $1,000 Scholarship: Due by April 29. Applications in Mrs. Duhart’s & Guidance
-Forgotten Coast Builders Assoc. $1,000 Scholarship: Must be postmarked by May 6. Preference given to
student majoring in a construction related field, but is not required. Applications in Mrs. Duhart’s & Guidance
-JCI Senators Scholarship: Due by May 8. Applications in Mrs. Duhart’s & Guidance
-Apalachicola Bay Rotary Scholarship: Due by May 15. Applications in Mrs. Duhart’s & Guidance
TEACHER/STAFF Info
**Elementary Science Teachers: Please participate in the FCS Science Fair. All projects must be turned in to the library
by May 4th. Projects will be judged on May 5. On May 6, please make plans to tour the library by calling the library.
Also, on May 6, H/S lab students will be presenting “Science Circus” using physics, biology & other concepts.

**Pre-K Screenings will be done on Thurs & Fri, April 14 & 15, 8:30am-12:00 noon, @ Franklin Co. Learning Center
in Eastpoint. Children ages 3-4 years who are not enrolled in public school & are suspected of having a vision, hearing,
speech or development disability will be screened - - - by appointment only. Call toll free 1-866-277-6616 for an

**FSU Marine Lab Open House: Saturday, April 16, 10:00am-3:00pm, 3618 Coastal HWY 98, St. Teresa –
Fun filled event for the whole family with exhibits, children activities, lab tours, mini-lectures, & more! All activities are free.
