Explorations in Soap - MOLDING

1. I have used melt and pour soap base for this exploration assignment. It was a local brand called Laxmi SOAP and it was
lemon flavored.

2. I chopped the base into fine small pieces so it is easier to melt it later.

3. I turned on my stove, placed a tawa on top and proceeded to melt the soap which was in a steel container which was
in turn placed on the tawa.

4. A few spoons of water and oil was added along with some sandal for additional fragrance and freshness and heated
till it melted.

5. The container was taken off the tawa and immediately poured into different bowls and silicon moulds and were kept
aside to cool off and set.

6. After an hour or so the soaps were ready and hence were taken out of the mold.

Soap Carving
1. I have used a GOPI soap that I melted and remolded into a hand made mold made from sun board(3x3in).

2. The sun board was carefully removed in order to get the soap and it required some patting to smoothen it around the
edges.

3. A 3x3in portion of a composition made in color course was taken for this assignment.

4. Using pencil, a drawing was made on to the soap so as to kn9ow where to cut.

5. Using bunch of different tools and knives, the following pattern mentioned previously was cut and carved out.

Explorations in Paper Mache – Bowls.

1. Firstly paper Mache was to be made. It required a lot of chopped newspaper which I did using a pair of scissors .

2. The newspaper was transferred to a bucket and soaked in water overnight.

3. It was then sieved using a cloth to get rid of excess water and then blended to form a paper paste.

4. 5 different kinds of natural glue were made in order to use them on 5 different bowls. That included RICE FLOUR,
WHEAT FLOUR, CORN FLOUR, RICE and SABUDANA.

5. The paper paste was kneaded along with the glue and talc and some oil until it became sturdy like clay.

6. The paper Mache was ready and was placed along the bowls which were used as a mould.

7. It was then kept in the sun to dry.

box.

7. I used the sticks from the bathroom broom and covered them in paper Mache and in turn dipped into black oil paint,
which were made as the pillars.

8. Finally the roof was made in a similar manner in which we make modaks at Ganesh Chaturthi and was placed right on
top of the sticks. Small balls of paper mache painted in black were placed below to act as rocks. I used the local
vegetation(that’s my garden) to garnish the gazebo and add some life to it.
