Centrifugal Pump
❖ The Hydraulic machine that convert the mechanical energy into hydraulic energy are

called pump.

❖ The hydraulic energy is in the form of pressure energy.

❖ It act as a reverse of an inward radial flow reaction turbine.

❖ It works on the principle of forced vortex which means that when a certain mass of

liquid is rotated by an external torque, the rise in pressure head of the rotating action

takes place.

❖ So the outlet of the impeller, the rise in pressure head will be more & the liquid will be

discharged at outlet.

Centrifugal Pump
(i) Suction head:

It is defined as the vertical height between the centre line of the pump

and above the water surface in the pump from which water is to be

lifted.

(ii) Delivery head:

It is the vertical distance between the centre line of the pump and the

water surface in the tank to which water is to be delivered.
