Hello,

My name is Wasib Jamil and I am writing to express my interest in the opening for Structural Analysis Engineer.

I graduated with Masters in Civil Engineering (Structures) from Michigan State University in May of 2019 and am
currently working as a Project Engineer in Milwaukee office of a small Chicago based Structural Engineering Firm. Most
of my current job includes designing and reviewing structures for small to mid-level residential and commercial
buildings, as well as writing technical reports and RFIs. I am proficient in Steel, concrete, timber and masonry designs in
accordance with local design codes (ACI, ASCE, IBC, NDS etc).

During Masters study, my major focus was on static and dynamic analysis of structures. I learned tools like SolidWorks
for modelling and ABAQUS for performing Finite Element Analysis of these models. For my master’s research project I
minimized the error induced in Piezoelectric (PZT) sensors by temperature variations, by combining their transfer
functions, so that they can be used reliably for Weighing-In-Motion. I also learned how to construct the equations of
motions of Multiple-Degree-of-Freedom (MDoF) Systems and solve them in laplace as well as time domain. As a
coursework project for Structural Dynamics I simulated a MDoF quarter car model in MATLAB. Since I am an
International Student my academics is the

I like working at my current job, but since it is a small firm the job is very repetitive, monotonous and unchallenging.
Moreover, this company size, though does not overwhelm me, provides less opportunity for growth and teamwork. As
an engineer with an advanced degree in the field of engineer I am looking for a job that could use my technical
knowledge and provide me with an experience to work and grow in a team environment.

Though, I am a structure engineering major, during my tenure in MSU as a grad student I took several courses in
Construction Management to get myself acquainted to the current and upcoming practices of construction industry.
These courses were 'Lean Construction Management' and 'Advanced Virtual Design and Construction (VDC)'. These
course-works got me acquainted with the Just-In-Time Production system and Integrated Parametric Designs using BIM.
As a coursework project, for VDC, I constructed the 3D model of North-end extension of Spartan Stadium (Football
Stadium of MSU) in Revit along with its scheduling and clash-detection in Naviswork. Being a Structural Engineer,
knowing these tools can complement my abilities as a valuable employee. I took and passed my FE Exam (EIT) by 2nd of
April and hope to work towards getting PE certification.

The growth opportunities that your firm can provide is another source of attraction for me. I look forward to sharing
more details of my experience and motivations with you. Thank you for your consideration.

Sincerely,
Wasib Jamil
