Aklan State University’s 25M Smart Campus Proposal approved by CHED

The Aklan State University’s Smart Campus Proposal amounting to ₱25,000,000.00 was
approved by the Commission on Higher Education (CHED).

CHED’s initiative, spearheaded by Chairperson Dr. J. Prospero E. De Vera III, is anchored on

RA 11494, otherwise known as the “Bayanihan to Recover as One Act”, which appropriated
“three billion pesos (P 3,000,000,000.00) to assist SUCs in the development of smart campuses
through investments in ICT infrastructure, acquisition of learning management systems and other
appropriate equipment to fully implement flexible learning modalities.”

It is with great joy and pride that ASU is among the 89 SUCs that were approved by the
commission and given grants out of the 111 SUCs that submitted project proposals. ASU’s smart
campus proposal entitled “Smart Digital Campus Connect (SDCC): Aklan State University
in the New Normal” primarily focuses on the development and establishment of University
Management Information System and Learning Management System Solutions (In-House
Development), Campus Wide Area Network and Improved Internet Connectivity in the Aklan
State University.

“The SDCC Project will effectively facilitate the University’s shift to the new normal academic
environment. The project will host the University’s Management Information Systems (UMIS)
and Learning Management System Solutions (In-House Development) that shall serve as the
backbone of the institution’s operations. The establishment of Campus Wide Area Network and
Improved Internet Connectivity in the Aklan State University shall strengthen the capability of
ASU to facilitate flexible learning and would result to a more efficient way of delivering
administrative and academic services in the entire University.” Dr. Jeffrey Clarin, ICT/MIS
Director and Project Leader said.

Dr. Emily Arangote, SUC President III has also expressed her gratitude to the commission for
the project approval and continued support. “The Aklan State University extends its utmost
gratitude to the Commission on Higher Education, particularly to Chair Popoy De Vera III. It’s
both an honor and a privilege to be among the prominent Universities in the country to be
qualified for the smart campus project grant.”

“As ASU President, I firmly believe that life is too precious to be risked in these precarious
times. CHED’s position to promote flexible learning and develop smart campuses has shown us
a better, more relevant option that can help us thrive, ensuring no ASUian is left behind.
