1. SPESIFICATION
1.1 Introduction

It is proposed to install 1 building maintenance unit (BMU) on top roof level of the building.
This calculation presents the bolt calculation, when the BMU is upright it would be fixed on
top of the twin track with base plate underneath which are fixed to the plate.

1.2 Design Reference

The resulting loading is transfer to the track, bolted to the base plate steel, then to the I-Beam
support.

1.3 Design calculation

Material properties

bolt are to be grade (A4) SS 316 of ANSI/ASME B.18.18.2M-1987

Design strength = 185 N/mm²

Design shear strength = 132 N/mm²

Modulus of elasticity = 180 KN/mm²

Ultimate strength = 530 N/mm²

Use H-Beam 250x250 x9x14 :

Ix = 10800 cm4

Iy = 3650 cm4

Sx = 867 cm3

ix = 10.8 cm

iy = 6.29 cm

Widht profil = 250 mm

High profil = 250 mm

Total load = 44300 kg

Checking bolt in load condition 1

The downward wheel load will be sustained by the plate steel plinth, The horizontal force
will be restraint by bolted and transferred to the support structure.

Tensile load on each bolt = 264 KN/4 = 66000 N

The effective section area of the each M30 bolt = 561 mm²

The Tensile load on each bolt = 66000 / 561 = 117.65 Nmm² < 290 Nmm²

Shear force on each M30 bolt = 37.3 KN/4 = 9325 N

The effective section area of the each M30 bolt = 561 mm²

Shear stress on each M30 bolt = 9325 / 561 = 16.62 Nmm² < 132 Nmm ² OK

Against moment bolters check Due to the earthquake

Shear force (seismic) = 185.52 KN, BMU Height = 5.5 m dan Bw = 2.5 m

Ti = M + Bw

= 1020 KNm + 2.5 m

Checking shear

Tensile load on each bolt = 10.8 KN/4 = 2700 N

The effective section area of the each M12 bolt = 84.3 mm²

The Tensile load on each bolt = 2700 / 84.3 = 32.03 Nmm² < 290 Nmm²

3.1.2 Base Plate

Ag = L x tp

= 15 cm x 1.7 cm

= 25.5 cm²

Pu = Øt x Ag x fy

= 0.9 x 25.5 x 2400
