Τhe National Theatre of Northern Greece
is one of the country’s largest theatre institutions. With its five
indoor and two outdoor stages, plus the appearances it makes
on tour and at festivals both in Greece and internationally, it has
been a driving force on the cultural scene since 1961. Its aim,
from the time of its establishment, was the presentation of plays
of Greek and world dramaturgy, the realization of tours in North-
ern Greece and the whole country (since 1962), the production
of ancient drama and classical plays, in ancient and open theatres,
and cultural events in relation to theatre and art in general.
The NTNG is a private legal non-profit entity and is governed
by a seven-member Board of Directors along with the Artistic
Director. It is supervised and funded by the Hellenic Ministry of
Culture and Sport.

As a public theatre which repays citizens for the funding it re-

ceives through the art, education and entertainment it provides,
and which seeks to remain open and accessible to society at large,
the National Theatre of Northern Greece has forged a strategy
which revolves around the following axes:
• a wide-ranging repertory
• high-quality productions for children and young people
• a focus on theatre education and educational activities
• strong ties and partnerships with cultural institutions,
municipal authorities, bodies and social institutions
• an emphasis on social policy
• social activities which raise public awareness
• low ticket prices with a wide range of concessions
• a powerful international presence.
Το Κρατικό Θέατρο Βορείου Ελλάδος,
συμπληρώνοντας 60 χρόνια καλλιτεχνικής δημιουργίας,
αποτελεί σήμερα έναν από τους μεγαλύτερους θεατρικούς
και ευρύτερα πολιτιστικούς οργανισμούς στη χώρα μας. Με
πέντε χειμερινές σκηνές, δύο υπαίθρια θέατρα, αλλά και με
την πραγματοποίηση πανελλαδικών και διεθνών περιοδειών,
λειτουργεί ως ενεργός πυρήνας πολιτισμού από το 1961. Στόχος
του, από την εποχή της ίδρυσής του, ήταν η διδασκαλία έργων
του ελληνικού και ξένου δραματολογίου, η πραγματοποίηση
περιοδειών στις κυριότερες πόλεις της Βόρειας Ελλάδας και όλης
της χώρας (από το 1962), η οργάνωση παραστάσεων αρχαίου
δράματος ή άλλων κλασικών έργων στα σωζόμενα αρχαία
θέατρα και αλλού, καθώς και διάφορες άλλες εκδηλώσεις που
έχουν σχέση με το θέατρο και την τέχνη γενικότερα.

Το ΚΘΒΕ είναι Νομικό Πρόσωπο Ιδιωτικού Δικαίου μη κερδο-

σκοπικού χαρακτήρα και εποπτεύεται και επιχορηγείται από το
Υπουργείο Πολιτισμού και Αθλητισμού.

Ως θέατρο δημοσίου συμφέροντος που οφείλει να ανταποδίδει

στον πολίτη την εισφορά του μέσω της τέχνης, της παιδείας
και της ψυχαγωγίας και επιδιώκει να είναι πάντα ανοιχτό στην
κοινωνία, το Κρατικό Θέατρο Βορείου Ελλάδος ακολουθεί μια
στρατηγική με τους παρακάτω βασικούς άξονες:
• επιλογή ρεπερτορίου ευρείας γκάμας
• παραγωγή παραστάσεων υψηλών προδιαγραφών για παιδιά
και νέους
• συμβολή στη θεατρική εκπαίδευση και ανάπτυξη εκπαιδευτικής
δραστηριότητας
• ενίσχυση δεσμών και συνεργασιών με πολιτιστικούς φορείς,
δημοτικές αρχές, οργανισμούς και κοινωνικά ιδρύματα
• έμφαση στην κοινωνική πολιτική
• διεξαγωγή κοινωνικών δράσεων με στόχο την ευαισθητοποίηση
των πολιτών
• χαμηλή τιμολογιακή πολιτική και διαβαθμίσεις παροχών
• ενίσχυση της διεθνούς παρουσίας
The NTNG’s annual programme brings together its own in-house
theatre productions with co-productions with other theatre orga-
nizations, stagings of productions from Greece and abroad, and a
wide range of cultural events. The Theatre also stages long sum-
mer tours around Greece and winter tours of Northern Greece,
and organizes the annual Forest Festival, a major cultural event
for Thessaloniki which includes concerts, theatre and dance.

The NTNG’s Children’s Stage and Youth Stage present high-qual-

ity productions for children and young people on a yearly basis.
Infant theatre performances are also given. Educational Pro-
grammes aimed at children in primary and secondary education,
Theatre Workshops for children, teenagers, adults and people
with disabilities, thematic tributes, lectures, open discussions,
seminars, exhibitions, and play writing competitions are just
some of the parallel activities which the NTNG organizes in line
with its educational policy.
The NTNG Drama School provides a full theatrical education
free of charge, and has been a nursery for young actors since
1973.The purpose of the School is to provide a higher education
in the dramatic arts and to produce well-educated and trained
theatre professionals for the Greek Stage.
In addition, taking its social role serious and doing all it can to
make theatre accessible to people of all ages, including those
without easy access to live theatre, the NTNG engages in activ-
ities provided free of charge to special social groups. As such,
it arranges performances in hospitals, institutions and prisons
as well as running programmes in partnership with municipal
social services, units providing care for the elderly, correctional
institutions, drug rehabilitation programmes, and mental health
and other bodies.
As a member of the Union of the Theatres of Europe and the
International Theatre Institute, the NTNG has a robust presence
beyond Greece and participates in international festivals, pro-
grammes, co-productions, projects and residencies.

Emphasis is also placed on developing ties with South-Eastern

Europe and the rest of the continent, as well as with Greek com-
munities outside Greece.
Το ΚΘΒΕ παρουσιάζει κάθε χρόνο ένα πλούσιο πρόγραμμα
που συνδυάζει τις εσωτερικές παραγωγές του θεάτρου με
συμπαραγωγές με άλλους θεατρικούς οργανισμούς, μετακλήσεις
παραστάσεων από την Ελλάδα και το εξωτερικό καθώς και ποικίλες
πολιτιστικές εκδηλώσεις. Παράλληλα, πραγματοποιεί μεγάλες
καλοκαιρινές πανελλαδικές περιοδείες καθώς και περιοδείες στη
Βόρεια Ελλάδα.

Επιπλέον, κάθε καλοκαίρι διοργανώνει το Φεστιβάλ Δάσους, το

μεγάλο πολιτιστικό γεγονόςτης Θεσσαλονίκης, που περιλαμβάνει
συναυλίες, παραστάσεις θεάτρου και χορού. Παραστάσεις για
παιδιά, νέους και βρέφη, εκπαιδευτικά προγράμματα θεατρικά
εργαστήρια, θεματικά αφιερώματα, διαλέξεις, ανοιχτές
συζητήσεις, σεμινάρια, εκθέσεις, διεξαγωγή διαγωνισμών
συγγραφής θεατρικού έργου είναι ορισμένες από τις δράσεις
που διοργανώνει το ΚΘΒΕ στο πλαίσιο της εκπαιδευτικής του
πολιτικής.
Η Δραματική Σχολή του ΚΘΒΕ παρέχει δωρεάν πλήρη θεατρική
παιδεία και αποτελεί φυτώριο για νέους ηθοποιούς από το 1973.
Σκοπός της Σχολής είναι η παροχή ανώτερης εκπαίδευσης στη
δραματική τέχνη και η άρτια μόρφωση καλλιτεχνών και λειτουργών
της Ελληνικής Σκηνής.
Επίσης, το ΚΘΒΕ, ανταποκρινόμενο στον κοινωνικό του
ρόλο και με στόχο να φτάσει το θέατρο σε ανθρώπους κάθε
ηλικίας που δεν έχουν εύκολη πρόσβαση στη θεατρική πράξη,
πραγματοποιεί δράσεις που προσφέρονται δωρεάν σε ειδικές
κοινωνικές ομάδες.
Ως μέλος της Ένωσης των Θεάτρων της Ευρώπης και του
Διεθνούς Ινστιτούτου Θεάτρου, το ΚΘΒΕ έχει ισχυρή διεθνή
παρουσία με συμμετοχές σε διεθνή φεστιβάλ και προγράμματα,
συμπαραγωγές, μετακλήσεις παραστάσεων και καλλιτεχνών,
διοργανώσεις εργαστηρίων κ.ά. όπου συμμετέχουν καλλιτέχνες
από τον διεθνή χώρο.

Ιδιαίτερη έμφαση δίνεται στην ανάπτυξη σχέσεων με την Ευρώπη,

ιδιαίτερα την Νοτιοανατολική, καθώς και με τις κοινότητες του
απόδημου ελληνισμού.

The history of the National Theatre of Northern Greece

has played out over the last six decades
in parallel with the history of Greece.
The works of men and women,
which have sometimes followed and sometimes presaged events,
signalling truths
social, political, economic
expressed through Art.
Cultural acts attested to by programme entries,
publications, stage sets and unique costumes,
all of immense value and bearing witness to the historical
essence of their eras.
With our quiver full of memories like these,
our presence was a moral obligation in
this anniversary year for the Thessaloniki International Fair,
which for 85 years now has been opening up gateways
to the Mediterranean and the Balkans, Europe, Asia, Africa
and the world,
showcasing modern Greece, its innovations, visions and dynamism.
Relying on the assistance of the state
and, above all, on the WORKS AND DAYS OF MEN,
the NTNG has radiated the glory of Greek Culture
internationally and to particular acclaim.
A pillar of culture, perhaps unique in Northern Greece.
which has steered a true course for decades now,
it deserves to be honoured for its journey thus far.
ΣΗΜΕΙΩΜΑ ΚΑΛΛΙΤΕΧΝΙΚΟΥ ΔΙΕΘΥΝΤΗ
ΝΙΚΟΥ ΚΟΛΟΒΟΥ

Η ιστορία του Κρατικού Θεάτρου Βορείου Ελλάδος,

διαδραματίζεται τις τελευταίες έξι δεκαετίες,
παράλληλα με την ιστορία της χώρα μας.
Ανθρώπων έργα,
που άλλοτε ακολούθησαν και άλλοτε προηγήθηκαν των εξελίξεων
σηματοδοτώντας αλήθειες
κοινωνικές, πολιτικές, οικονομικές,
ειπωμένες με Τέχνη.
Πιστοποιημένες πράξεις πολιτισμού μέσα από
εγγραφές σε προγράμματα,
δημοσιεύματα, σκηνικά και μοναδικά κοστούμια,
στοιχεία τεράστιας αξίας, που μαρτυρούν την ιστορική
ουσία των εποχών.
Με την φαρέτρα γεμάτη μ’ αυτές τις μνήμες,
χρέος επετειακό η παρουσία μας φέτος στην
Διεθνή Έκθεση Θεσσαλονίκης,
που πανομοιότυπα, 85 χρόνια τώρα, ανοίγει πύλες
στη Μεσόγειο και τη Βαλκανική, την Ευρώπη, την Ασία, την Αφρική
και τον κόσμο ολόκληρο,
προβάλλοντας τη σύγχρονη Ελλάδα, τις καινοτομίες της, τα οράματα
και την παραγωγική της δυναμική.
Το ΚΘΒΕ βασιζόμενο στην αρωγή της πολιτείας
και σε ΕΡΓΑ ΚΑΙ ΗΜΕΡΕΣ ΑΝΘΡΩΠΩΝ κυρίως,
ακτινοβόλησε την αίγλη του Ελληνικού Πολιτισμού,
διεθνώς και με εξαιρετική απήχηση.
Πυλώνας πολιτισμού, ίσως ο μοναδικός στη Βόρεια Ελλάδα,
επί σειρά δεκαετιών πιστός στον προορισμό του,
αξίζει να τιμηθεί για τη μέχρι τώρα πορεία του.

 A 60-year Journey into the Light
Curator’s note
The National Theatre of Northern Greece has been blaz-
ing a trail through Greece’s theatrical and cultural life for
60 years now. Over the course of this long, dynamic and
uninterrupted journey, the NTNG has remained a cradle
for the production and promotion of theatre which has
bolstered the Greek cultural scene as a whole with new
life and new directions.

Since the theatrical act is created and expressed collec-

tively, its success or otherwise depends on the sum total
of those collective efforts.

A large number of artists—playwrights, actors, direc-

tors, set designers, costume designers, musicians, chore-
ographers and lighting designers—have passed through
the National Theatre of Northern Greece, both its per-
manent stages and others which have hosted its produc-
tions, and many found opportunities there, along with
fertile ground in which their work could take root and
flourish. These artists are the heart of the NTNG, along
with its outstanding technicians: the carpenters, paint-
ers and sculptures who create its sets, the talented seam-
stresses who create its costumes, as well as the prompt-
ers, hairdressers, dressers, make-up artists, theorists and
managers who support their work.

The National Theatre of Northern Greece Drama School

takes young and impulsive artists and turns them into
outstanding servants of their art, household names who
now grace stages the length and breadth of the country.

Σημείωμα Επιμελήτριας
Το Κρατικό Θέατρο Βορείου Ελλάδος διανύει 60 χρόνια
πορείας στο θεατρικό και πολιτιστικό γίγνεσθαι της
χώρας μας. Στη διάρκεια αυτής της μακράς δυναμικής
και αδιάλειπτης πορείας, το ΚΘΒΕ αποτέλεσε και
αποτελεί κοιτίδα παραγωγής και προβολής θεατρικών
και καλλιτεχνικών δρώμενων τα οποία μπόλιασαν το
πολιτισμικό περιβάλλον του τόπου μας.
Καθώς η θεατρική πράξη συντελείται και εκφράζεται
ομαδικά, το συστατικό για την επιτυχία της είναι το
προϊόν των συντελεστών της.
Από τις σκηνές του Κρατικού Θεάτρου Βορείου Ελλάδος,
είτε από τις μόνιμες είτε από όσες φιλοξένησαν θεατρικές
παραγωγές του, παρέλασε ένας μεγάλος αριθμός
καλλιτεχνών –συγγραφέων, ηθοποιών, σκηνοθετών,
σκηνογράφων, ενδυματολόγων, μουσικών, χορογράφων
και φωτιστών– στους οποίους προσφέρθηκαν ευκαιρίες
και γόνιμο έδαφος για να καταθέσουν το έργο τους και
να λάμψουν. Οι δημιουργοί αυτοί αποτέλεσαν την ψυχή
του ΚΘΒΕ μαζί με εξαιρετικούς τεχνικούς, μαστόρους,
ζωγράφους και γλύπτες των σκηνικών, μοναδικές
μοδίστρες κοστουμιών, φροντιστές, κομμωτές, μακιγιέρ,
αμπιγιέζ, θεωρητικούς της θεατρικής γνώσης και
διοικητικούς υποστηρικτές τους.
Η Δραματική Σχολή του Κρατικού Θεάτρου Βορείου
Ελλάδος εκπαιδεύει και οδηγεί στις σκηνές όλης της
χώρας τους αποφοίτους της και τους μετουσιώνει από
νέους και ορμητικούς καλλιτέχνες σε σπουδαίους και
ονομαστούς υπηρέτες της υποκριτικής τέχνης.
The presence of “A 60-Year Journey into the Light” at the
58th Thessaloniki International Fair will raise awareness
of the NTNG, its history and what it stands for as a theat-
rical institution. And it will do so through the fragments
which bear witness to the theatrical act—or, rather, to
what is left behind when the spotlights go out on a pro-
duction for the last time. Drawing on this treasure trove
of memory, we present fragments of artfacts: costumes
which embodied roles and convey the energy and aura of
the designers who created them and the actors who dis-
played them to their best effect, along with curated pho-
tographic and digital material from the Theatre Archive.
The National Theatre of Northern Greece shares with us its
vision for the future through its ability to turn it into a
past full of artistic creations and dreams that have al-
ready become reality; by interacting with this vision, the
community can recycle the past into the energy the The-
atre needs to continue on its journey.
In support of this concept and these goals, we strove first
to trace and then to spotlight the magic thread that has
run through and guided the NTNG’s 60-year Journey
into the Light.

Η παρουσία στην 85η Διεθνή Έκθεση Θεσσαλονίκης με
τίτλο «60 Χρόνια Διαδρομή στο Φως» προβάλλει την
ταυτότητα και την ιστορία του θεατρικού οργανισμού
ΚΘΒΕ. Στοιχεία της προβολής αυτής αποτελούν τα
σπαράγματα-μαρτυρίες της θεατρικής πράξης ή ό,τι από
αυτήν απομένει όταν σβήσουν τα φώτα της σκηνής. Από
την κιβωτό, το θησαυροφυλάκιο της μνήμης, καταθέ-
τουμε ένα μικρό δείγμα τεκμηρίων παρουσιάζοντας
κοστούμια που κόσμησαν ρόλους και φέρουν την
ενέργεια και την αύρα των ενδυματολόγων που τα
δημιούργησαν και των ηθοποιών που τα ανέδειξαν,
καθώς και επιλεγμένο φωτογραφικό και ψηφιακό υλικό
από το Αρχείο του Θεάτρου.
Το Κρατικό Θέατρο Βορείου Ελλάδος μάς αφηγείται το
όραμά του για το μέλλον με τις δυνατότητες που έχει
να μπορεί να μετουσιώνει το όραμα αυτό σε παρελθόν
γεμάτο από πραγματοποιημένα όνειρα, καλλιτεχνικά
δημιουργήματα, αλληλεπίδραση με την κοινωνία που τη
μετατρέπει σε ανακυκλώσιμη ενέργεια για την πορεία
του.

Υπηρετώντας την ιδέα και τους σκοπούς αυτούς,

προσπαθήσαμε να αποκρυπτογραφήσουμε και να
προβάλουμε το μαγικό νήμα που συνδέει και οδηγεί το
ΚΘΒΕ για 60 χρόνια: τη Διαδρομή του στο Φως.
