Course Guide Algebra and Trigonometry
Course Guide Algebra and Trigonometry
Mathematics Department
Course Description: A bridging course for non-STEM strand senior high school graduates and a foundation course for Higher Mathematics. The first part of this course deals with
Algebra which covers the following topics: Concepts on Algebraic Expressions (real numbers, constants, variables, coefficients and terms); Operations on Algebraic Expressions
comprised of two parts: Basic Operations (grouping symbols, laws of addition, laws of multiplication, laws of exponents, laws of radicals and operations of radicals to simplest
form), and Operations on Polynomials (addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, special products, expansion of binomials into polynomials, factoring and algebraic fractions;
Linear Equations (one equation in one variable, two equations in two variables, and three equations in three variables; and Quadratic Equations (pure quadratic equations,
solutions by factoring, completing the square and quadratic formula.
The second part deals Trigonometry which covers the measurements and relationships of the sides and angles of a triangle involving the applications of six trigonometric functions
of acute angles (circular functions such as sine, cosine, tangent, cotangent, secant and cosecant). It develops heuristics strategies and skills in word problems as foundation for
Higher Mathematics and Science subjects. The seven major topics are trigonometric angles, solutions of right triangles, solutions of oblique triangles, trigonometric identities,
logarithms, antilogarithms and cologarithms.
Online Course Goal: The goal for online learning is not be too prodigious, but guaranteeing that the students will learn online learning design using the Internet as a major
resource for learning, giving students more responsibility for finding and evaluating information themselves, and instructors will postulate criteria and guidelines for finding,
evaluating, analyzing and applying information within a specific knowledge domain.
