Introductory Message
Welcome to Handicraft Making Exploratory Course for Grade 7/8!

The Learning Activity Sheet is a product of the collaborative efforts of the


Schools Division of Silay and DepEd Regional Office VI - Western Visayas through
the Curriculum and Learning Management Division (CLMD). This is developed to
guide the learning facilitators (teachers, parents, and responsible adults) in helping
the learners meet the standards set by the K to 12 Basic Education Curriculum.

The Learning Activity Sheet is self-directed instructional materials aimed to


guide the learners in accomplishing activities at their own pace and time using the
contextualized resources in the community. This will also assist the learners in
acquiring the lifelong learning skills, knowledge and attitudes for productivity and
employment.

For learning facilitator:


The Mini-Course in Handicraft Making Activity Sheet will help you facilitate
the leaching-learning activities specified in each Most Essential Learning
Competency (MELC) with minimal or no face-to-face encounter between you and
learner. This will be made available to the learners with the references/links to ease
the independent learning.

For the learner:


The Mini-Course in Handicraft Making Activity Sheet is developed to help
you continue learning even if you are not in school. This learning material provides
you with meaningful and engaging activities for independent learning. Being an
active learner, carefully read and understand the instructions then perform the
activities and answer the assessments. This will be returned to your facilitator on the
agreed schedule.

Gift Wrapping

use appropriate tools for wrapping gifts, apply principles and elements of design, and
wrap gift items artistically.

Activity 1
1. Directions/Instructions
Read Handicraft tools and materials, and embroidery stitches on K to 2
learning modules on Handicraft Production, pages 61-74.

Read and understand the key concepts presented below.

Gift giving is something that should not be taken as a task. We, Filipinos are
very passionate about it. We are fond of giving gifts on every occasion, and the best
gifts we can offer is wrap with love and compassion. Gift wrapping is a skill where we
enclose an item in some sort of material, normally a piece of paper. It is an art of
packing, wrapping, and decorating something to be given as a gift or token.
2. Exercises/Activities

Exercise No. 1: Finding the Gift!


Directions: Below is a table that contains word or group of words related to gift
wrapping. Your task is to identify the tools and materials in gift wrapping. Write your
answer on a separate sheet of paper.

Exercise No. 2: Getting Ready!


Directions: Arrange the following procedure in gift wrapping. Number 1 to 5 as 1 is
the first order and 5 is the last order.

Wrapping a Box
 Fold top flap down to the box, pulling tightly, and tape.
Fold the bottom flap up tightly and tape. Repeat on other
side of package. ________
 Fold top flap down to the box, pulling tightly, and tape.
Fold the bottom flap up tightly and tape. Repeat on other
side of package. ________
 Roll out the wrapping paper. Be sure you have enough
paper to fit around the entire gift. Measure if necessary
leaving a few extra inches to be sure you are completely
covered. ________
 Position box so top is facing up. Run your thumb and
forefinger across the edges of the box to create a
creased edge. Repeat on bottom of the box. ________
 Next, you need to close the ends. Face the open end
towards you and fold the right and left edges, pushing
the sides in next to your box, to form flaps. ________
Exercise No. 3: Your Turn!
You are attending a birthday party of your grandfather, you wanted to make him feel
special by giving him a personalized gift. Look around your home and find tools and
materials and your gift then perform the task following the principles and elements of
design you learn from previous lessons. Make sure to put some love and ensure
safety while working.

Exercise No. 1 Finding the Gift


Box, Scissor, Tape, Glue, Ruler, Wrapper, Ribbon, Gift.

Exercise No. 2-Getting Ready!


Procedure in Wrapping a Box
1. Roll out the wrapping paper. Be sure you have enough paper to fit around the
entire gift. Measure if necessary, leaving a few extra inches to be sure you are
completely covered.
2. Once the paper is cut to the right size, place your gift face down in the middle
of the paper. Bring paper from the long side of the box, up to the middle of your
package. Pull both sides tightly so the paper hugs your package smoothly, and
tape
3. Next, you need to close the ends. Face the open end towards you and fold the
right and left edges, pushing the sides in next to your box, to form flaps.
4. Fold top flap down to the box, pulling tightly, and tape. Fold the bottom flap up
tightly and tape. Repeat on other side of package.
