CHAPTER V

SUMMARY, CONCLUSIONS, AND RECOMMENDATIONS

This chapter presented the summary of findings, conclusions based

on findings and recommendation drawn from the conclusion. The findings

of the study were ordered according to the specific sub – problems stated

in the first chapter.

SUMMARY

The main purpose of the study was to determine the Effects of Snake

Plant (Dracaena trifasciata) Fibers as an Alternative Raw Material in Paper

Production.

The study was conducted at Brgy. Luciente I. Bolinao, Pangasinan

since face-to-face interaction is prohibited due to COVID-19 threats. Thirty

(30) students from Brgy. Luciente I. Bolinao, Pangasinan were the chosen

respondents. This study made use of descriptive-experimental research

design. Non-random quota sampling was used since the respondents of

this study were limited to only 30. The researchers used survey

questionnaires specifically rating scale as the main data gathering tool.

Summary of Findings

The following are the salient findings of the study:

1. On the Level of Acceptability of Snake Plant Papers

a. Appearance. Among the three (3) treatments, the respondents

evaluated Treatment C which is made with 4L of water, 4 hours

of boiling time, 8 cups of distilled white vinegar and 8 tablespoon

of bleach (bleaching solution), 72 hours of bleaching time, 15

minutes of blending time, and 750 g of snake plant leaves in

terms of its appearance as “acceptable” based on the computed

average weighted mean of 3.93.

b. Durability. Majority of the respondents rated Treatment C as

“acceptable” in terms of its durability based on the computed

average weighted mean of 3.93.

c. Texture. Most of the respondents evaluated Treatment C as

“acceptable” in terms of its texture based on the computed

average weighted mean of 3.9.

2. On the Acceptability of Treatments for Public Use

Among the three (3) treatments, majority of the respondents rated

Treatment C which is made with made with 4L of water, 4 hours of

boiling time, 8 cups of distilled white vinegar and 8 tablespoon of bleach

(bleaching solution), 72 hours of bleaching time, 15 minutes of blending

47

time, and 750 g of snake plant leaves as “acceptable” for public use

based on the computed average weighted mean of 3.73.

3. On the Significant Difference between Snake Plant Papers and

Commercial Paper

The computed p-value was 0.1475754. Therefore, the null hypothesis

was accepted.

CONCLUSIONS

Based on the findings of the study, the following conclusions were

drawn:

1. Treatment C stands out among the treatments in terms of the

appearance, durability and texture. Since Treatment C is made with 750

g of snake plant leaves, the appearance of it is very appealing and its

texture is smoother than the other treatments. In addition to that,

Treatment C is the most durable snake plant paper which is applicable for

long term use.

2. The most preferred sample is Treatment C which is made with 4L of

water, 4 hours of boiling time, 8 cups of distilled white vinegar and 8

tablespoon of bleach (bleaching solution), 72 hours of bleaching time, 15

minutes of blending time, and 750 g of snake plant leaves. Meaning this
48

treatment is the most sufficient and acceptable to use in public by the

community among the three treatments. This indicates that Treatment C

can be used as an eco-friendly paper because of it being high quality and

durable.

3. There is no significant difference between snake plant papers and

commercial paper. This means that papers made up of snake plant fibers

and commercial paper are all equal in terms of their appearance,

durability, and texture. In addition to that, snake plant papers have the

same properties and quality with the commercial paper in terms of the

sensory evaluation and because of this, it can be utilized as visual aids.

Since they have no difference, snake plant papers are much better to use

than the commercial because it is cheaper, and easier to produce. Papers

made up of snake plants can replace commercial papers because it is

environmental friendly.

RECOMMENDATIONS

Based on the conclusions drawn, the following recommendations

are presented:

a. For the Students

1. Make use of snake plants as an alternative raw material in paper

production.
49

2. Find new ways of utilizing the alternative raw material through

conducting experiments.

3. Learn to help our environment through preserving such even in

every way.

b. For the Community

1. Try to harness and help out our society to be environmentally

friendly through using snake plants as an alternative raw

material in paper production.

2. Provide materials to be used in making snake plant paper to be

utilized by everybody.

3. Be innovative in a primitive way; through using this one.

c. For the Future Researchers

1. Probe and explore for more additional information expounding

the study regarding snake plant as an alternative raw material

for paper production

2. Continue and further expand this study to discover more

important data or information that might help in extending the

wisdom of this research. As the researcher itself, reflect and

share what you have come up with.

50

3. For future research, enhance the appearance, color, and texture

to persuade and promote snake plant as an alternative raw

material for paper production.

4. Try to blend the bleached snake plant longer to produce a much

smoother paper.

5. Enhance the durability of each sample paper in order to be used

for a longer period of time.

6. Try to dry the snake plants and try to find new ways to bleach

the snake plant.

7. Make use of a silk screen that has a count of 100-160 in order to

produce a smoother paper.

8. Don’t exceed the cooking time above 4 hours.
