Go Scotties!!!
Scotty fans have had plenty to cheer about in the early
going of the football season, as our boys made a decent
showing in a loss to Shepherd and then bounced back
to win their next two games over Roundup 44-8 and
this past Friday knocking off Baker 24-14 here this past
Friday. They are headed to Colstrip this Friday. Meanwhile,
volleyball will be in Plentywood on Friday. A great home
event (of sorts) is that the Scotties host an Invitational at
Fort Peck this Saturday. The Middle Schoolers take the
track at Kiwanis Park at 10:00. And don’t forget to bring an
appetite, as the Fort Peck Senior Citizens will be serving
up their now famous Pancake Breakfast. Need some fuel
to cheer on your kids? Stop and see them first! Hungry
for breakfast and don’t want to cook your own? Drive
on down to Downstream Campground! Serving from 8:00
until 11:30, cost of the meal is only $5.00 for two pancakes,
three sausages, and coffee, cocoa, or water. Our Scotties

Sometimes it takes one individual to make a difference
in a game. It doesn’t matter what sport it is. One athlete will
have a breakout game. Friday night it was Kyler Hallock
having the contest.
The senior running back was the workhorse for
Glasgow in a 24-14 win over Baker. Hallock rushed for 160
yards on 24 carries. And the Dawgs needed all of his yardage
as Baker also had its own workhorse in Guy Liess. The junior
carried the ball 26 times for 147 yards.
Baker (1-1) racked up 327 total yards with 118 coming
through the air. Glasgow finished with 302 total yards with
247 coming on the ground.
The game didn’t start the way the Dawgs wanted as
they gave up two points on a safety. Baker failed to move
the ball after taking the kickoff. But the Spartans pinned
Glasgow inside the 10 yard line with the punt. The Dawgs
took the ball at the six but a few plays later the Spartans came
with a blitz to catch Glasgow in the end zone for the 2-point
safety with 8:24 to play in the first quarter.
Glasgow (2-1) put up a good defensive stand to force a
fumble on the Spartans third possession. Hallock recovered
the fumble on Glasgow’s 34. After a loss of a yard, junior
quarterback Mason Donaldson connected with Mo Fast
for a 67-yard strike. Tatum Hansen ran in the 2-point
conversion for an 8-2 lead with 1:18 to play.
The defense came through once again as Glasgow
forced another fumble with Hinsdale athlete Trey Johnson
coming up with the ball on the Spartans 36. It took the
Dawgs six plays to reach paydirt with Hansen capping
the drive with his 2-yard score. Fast caught the pass from
Donaldson to give Glasgow a 16-2 lead with 9:19 to play in
the half.
Hallock ran for 12 yards on the drive, but it was Hansen
coming up with a big play when Glasgow was faced with
a fourth-and-1 on the 16. Hansen took the handoff from
Donaldson and got to the two to set up the touchdown.
Glasgow had two goal line stands with the first coming
after taking the 16-2 lead. Baker moved the ball from its
26 to the Glasgow seven where the Spartans drive stalled,
turning the ball over on downs.
The Dawgs also failed in moving the ball as they
were forced to punt the ball. That set up the Spartans first
touchdown of the game. Baker took the ball on its own 47
and five plays later Jaxson Tronstad hooked up with Jesse
Brawley for a 57-yard strike with 2:28 to play in the half. The

Glasgow’s defense was all over Baker, forcing the Spartans to cough Siefert (#50), Connor Koski (#54), Trey Johnson who recovered the

Spartans had their first possession. Baker got the ball to the
seven before Hallock recovered a fumble.
Baker did get to within 16-14 with 8:28 remaining in
the game when Liess scored from 1-yard out. The Dawgs
stopped Baker’s run after the TD.
Glasgow capped the scoring with Hallock breaking for
a 42-yard score with 2:12 to play in the game. Donaldson
passed to Nik Burke to give Glasgow a 24-14 lead.
The Dawgs did get the ball back when Baker went to
the air in attempts to get into the end zone. But Johnson
sacked Tronstad, who fumbled the ball. Gage Siefert falling
on it. Glasgow went into its victory formation to run out the
clock.
The Dawgs will be on the road Friday night as they
travel to Colstrip for a 7 p.m. non-conference contest.

VGM taxes collected in fiscal year 2020 across
Montana totaled $57,331,699 while in fiscal year (FY)
2021 it was $74,898,000, an increase of 30.64 percent.
The year-to-year figures from 4th quarter 2020
to 4th quarter 2021 for Valley County was $82,160 to
$144,515 in 2021.
Roosevelt County went from $280,755 in 2020
to $335,728 in 2021; and Daniels County went from
$9,699 to $20,248 in 2021, a 108.8 percent increase.
27 of Montana’s 56 counties experienced year-to-
year increases exceeding 100 percent from 4th quarter
2020 to 4th quarter 2021. Another nine counties were
over 90 percent but under 100 percent.
The largest gain percentage-wise was Liberty
County (Chester as county seat), going from $2,200 in
FY 2020 4th quarter to $7,369 in FY 2021 4th quarter.
The runner-up was Madison County (Virginia City),
expanding from $24,003 in 2020 to $68,812 in 2021, a
186.7 percent increase.
