BULLYING

Bullying is everywhere. It builds character like nuclear waste creates superheroes. It’s a
rare occurrence and often does much more damage than endowment. There is no excuse when
it comes to bullying, it can happen in school, at home or online. It is an ongoing and deliberate
misuse of power in relationships through repeated verbal, physical or social behavior that
intends to cause physical, social or psychological harm. It uses a power to control or harm
someone else. These actions are usually done by people who have more influence or power
over someone else, or who want to make someone else feel less powerful or helpless. That’s
the reason why President Benigno Aquino III has signed Republic Act 10627, or the Anti-
Bullying Act of 2013. The Act was signed last September 12 that aims to protect children
enrolled in kindergarten, elementary, and secondary schools and learning centers from being
bullied. Bullying, as defined under the Act, is any severe or repeated use by one or more
students of a written, verbal or electronic expression, or a physical act or gesture, or any
combination, directed at another student that has the effect of actually causing or placing the
latter in reasonable fear of physical, emotional harm or damage to his property. Schools are
directed to adopt to address the existence of bullying in their respective institutions in DepEd, and the
policies must prohibit bullying as already defined. Schools must likewise define the range of
administrative disciplinary actions that may be taken against a bully, or a person who commits retaliation,
the School’s Child Protection Committee will implement and serve as the body which will handle all
bullying. There are 3 main features of bullying: the misuse of power in a relationship, it is
ongoing and repeated, and it involves behaviors that can cause harm. But no matter what form
bullying takes, the results can be the same; depression, lost interest in life, and pain for the
person being bullied. Although it only focuses on children, we should keep in mind that bullying
behavior can also happen in adults. It can involve an individual or a group misusing their power,
to perceived power, over one or more persons who feel unable to stop it from happening.
Bullying is not developmentally appropriate, it should not be considered a normal part of the
typical social grouping that occurs throughout a child's life. We all know that bullying can’t be
prevented but we all need to stand up and use our voice to prevent this so that bullying cases
will decrease.

Millions of students are bullied each year. In fact, thousands of kids get fooled each day
because they are afraid, afraid of what may happen and afraid that they’re alone. There are
reasons why most of us experienced this, one of these is the Cyberbullying. It takes place over
digital devices like cell phones, computers, and tablets. It occurs also through text and apps, or
online in social media, where people can view, participate in, or share content. It can harm the
online reputations of everyone involved not just the person being bullied, but those doing the
bullying or participating in it. Miss Universe Pia Wurtsbach said, “All we need here and the rest
of the world is change of values, to accept our differences and to accept that is a fact of life. The
more we accepting, the more we become tolerant, the more we care”. I’ve realize that in order
to fight this we need a strong support system like our friends and families. To every victim of a
Cyberbullying, do not feel alone, avoid the trap of isolation and loneliness. The Social bullying
being is the second most common form of bullying, after name calling. This type of bullying is
also known as covert and relational bullying as it is designed to humiliate and emotionally
aggressive bullying behavior, relational aggression, or it can take the form of public humiliation.
It will lead to suicide, low self-esteem and lost interest in life. We need to help one another to
prevent this because this is not tolerable, since nobody likes it. Don’t deal with it alone, go to
someone you trust and strategize on how to confront it. To minimize this kind of issue we need
to volunteer or join in an organization because this is one way to use our voice to stop this bad
behavior. The Gender-based bullying, the sexual orientation and gender identity (SOGI) was
included in the Implementing Rules and Regulations (IRR) of the Republic Act No. 10627, in any
act that humiliates or excludes a person on the basis of perceived or actual SOGI. In the
Philippines, the person that who are lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender by bullying,
discrimination, lack of access to LGBT related information, and in some cases, physical or sexual
assault. Our Santo Papa said, “The homosexual people have right to be in a family, they are
children of God. To stop this, we all need everyone to be involved. Nobody should be thrown
out or be made miserable over it.” We all have to create a civil union law the way we are legally
covered, this is not to call the cohabitation of the gender-based bullying but to respect private
decisions and demonstrate that all people have the same dignity. Equality and freedom from
discrimination are fundamental human rights that belong to everyone, regardless of their
gender identity. Encourage the other people to be respectful, we all can develop respectful
relationships, be aware of the language and your actions and express your feelings without
violence. We don’t know what they feel so we all need to listen from their experience and
reflect yourself on how would you feel to be in that situation.

Bullying is very negative and creates major problems for our society. Nothing good
comes out of bullying. It could change or ruin a person's life. We have to be empowered and
never stop believing in ourselves and we all have a responsibility to stand up against bullying
and look after each other. Please choose kindness, take a stand against bullying, stay strong and
if we do, things can and will get better. The world needs heroes like you, we have the power to
choose our reaction so that the whole situation changes. We need to find friends that
appreciate us. It is much easier for young people to get positive perspective when we have a
peer group that can understand our interests and values. We don’t need to listen to those
people that are being mean because we have this reinforcement of support around us that
validate us as a person. Let us give each other an incredible skill set for any situation that we go
through in life. We’ll see that no matter what anyone else is doing, saying, or what they’re
going through, they have the power to transform it. That is the most important thing that we
can do to help each other with any mental health problems and concerns. Bullying is not okay
and I pray to God that all these bullies will realize the harm they are doing, not only to those
they are bullying, but to themselves as well, and put an end to this once and for all. I will leave
this quote, “If your back is bent, only then someone will climb on it, so stand straight and no
one will ever climb on it”.
