Apart from learning theoretically, as most say, experience is the best teacher.
Learning in the working world has become certainly vital to most organizations due to
the current nature of consumers, employers, employees, and the business atmosphere
that is being branded by both technological growth and competitive edge. The ship we
are always on is definitely a working vessel, but it is also home to some twenty people
who need time away from their jobs as much as anyone. While I’m onboard, I always
mingle with different kind of people, learn about different cultures and also adapt to
them to show respect. When we have our free time, we share our experiences about
our past company/vessels. Not just the time we spent on board together but also learn
from the experience of others. We should always be aware of the situation our industry
we are in so that we can easily resolve any problem/challenge that we will be facing.
In the economic point of view, the best solution to stabilize the economic situation
of our country, particularly in the shipping industry, is that additional container port
terminals should be built so that unloading ships wouldn’t be crowded in the ports.
Bunkering hub should also be available in the Philippines since the country is an ideal
strategic location. The organization should consider the cheapest provision and supply.
Building more shipyards in the Philippines. Emphasizing and monitoring maritime law.
The presence of coast guards in different parts of the Philippine Sea is needed to. Since
the country experiences moderate to severe tropical disturbances as well as typhoons,
we should have an effective and modern rescue coordinating system and modern
machineries to have a well effective and well efficient RCC and MRCC.
Organizational commitment plays a pivotal role in determining whether an
employee will stay with the organization for a longer period of time and work
passionately towards achieving the organization’s goal. High levels of organizational
commitments are related to superior business performance, increased profitability,
improved productivity, employee retention, customer satisfaction metrics,
reduced customer churn, and above all improving the workplace culture. There are
some ways to generate energy and commitment among people like creating a strong
teamwork culture, communicating clear goals and expectations to the employees, being
transparent, maintaining work ethics, fostering a positive work culture, providing
constructive feedback and not criticism and offering incentives and resilience courses to
all seafarers. Through this, the employees will be motivated and committed to their jobs
and produce a positive and competitive outcome.
