ASSIGNMENT:

DIFFERENT TYPES
OF RESISTORS
Linear resistors
- The value of these resistors changes in direct proportion to
the applied voltage and temperature.
- When a current goes through them, they cause a voltage
drop across themselves.

Nonlinear resistors
- are those types of resistors where the electric current
flowing through it changes with the exchange in applied
voltage or temperature and does not change according to
Ohm's law.
- These circuits necessitate changing the value of resistors in
response to changes in temperature or light.

Fixed Resistors
-most common resistor.
-are used for fixed resistors
- is a device that is used to reduce the flow of electricity in a
circuit.
- In circuits with substantial inherent (or unintentionally
added) capacitances, bleeders can also be used as bleeders. -
- When the terminals across a capacitor are short circuited, it
serves the effect of restricting the capacitor current (like if a
power electronic switch with the capacitor across it turns
on).
Variable Resistors

- When working with electrical circuitry, they aid in the control of

voltage and/or current.
- allows the user to have more control over the resistance by
allowing for variance or changing the resistor to match the user's
resistance requirements.

Potentiometer
- is a voltage divider that is used to measure electric potential
(voltage); the component is based on the same principle.
- are widely utilized to regulate electrical items such as audio
equipment volume controls.
-Since the power dissipated in the potentiometer would be
comparable to the power in the regulated load, they are rarely used
to directly control substantial power (more than a watt).

Rheostat
- is a current controller consisting of a variable resistor. They can
change the resistance in a circuit without breaking it.
- Variable resistance is provided by this device. It causes the
potential difference and current in the circuit to change,
demonstrating that the current is proportional to the potential
difference. (Ohm's law).
- Adjustable resistors are utilized in applications where current must
be adjusted or resistance must be varied in an electric circuit.
Trimmer resistor
- Trim potentiometers, often known as trimmer resistors or trim pots,
are a form of adjustable potentiometer. (variable resistor)
- Circuits are calibrated and fine-tuned using these tools. Trimmer
potentiometers are usually made of cermet or contain a carbon
component.
- are often used to initially calibrate equipment after manufacturing.

Wire-wound resistor

- The resistance is provided by winding around an insulating core.

- The basic purpose of a wire-wound resistor is to limit or reduce
current flow to a specified level.
- is an electrical passive device that limits or restricts current flow in
a circuit.

Carbon-composition resistors
- A fixed resistor that decreases or regulates the passage of electric
current to a specific level.
- is a carbon type two-terminal resistor that resists, decreases, or
controls excess current flowing via electrical and electronic circuits.
-These are used as general-purpose resistors.
Thick film resistor
- allows high resistance values to be printed fully or in varied
patterns on a cylindrical or flat substrate.
- A thick film resistor can be found in almost any electrical gadget
that includes a battery or an AC plug.
- are the most extensively used and least expensive resistor
technology. Thick film resistors are the optimum solution for
general-purpose applications that do not require a low TCR or tight
tolerance.

Thin film resistor

- Typically, they're employed in applications that require a lot of
stability, precision, or low noise. Such applications may include test
and measurement equipment, monitoring equipment, medical
equipment, audio applications, precision controls and
instrumentation.
- is normally reserved for high-precision tasks. They have a wide
range of tolerances, low temperature coefficients, and low noise
levels. Thin film also outperforms thick film in high-frequency
applications.

Surface mount resistors

-used for electronic components. They are more convenient to
employ in automated manufacturing and can deliver extremely high
levels of performance.
-SMT resistors utilise similar technologies to other forms, but in a
surface mount format.
-enhances production by allowing for very high levels of
automation; also, the use of SMT improves dependability, allows
for larger levels of functionality to be reached within an acceptable
size, and greatly saves costs.
Thermistors
-are often used as temperature sensors or thermal protection devices.
- When exposed to a similar shift in body temperature, the electrical
resistance used to alter dramatically, predictably, and precisely.

Varistors
-used to protect a circuit from high voltage surges.
- are employed in circuits to offer optimal operating conditions or to
safeguard against excessive transient voltages as control or
compensation elements.
-When used as protection devices, they shunt the current created by
the excessive voltage away from sensitive components when
triggered.

Light Dependent Resistors (Photo resistor)

- are frequently used to distinguish between light and dark settings,

such as when turning on street lights in the evening.
- are light-sensitive devices that are commonly used to detect the
presence or absence of light, as well as to measure the intensity of
light.
- are used to detect light levels in automatic security lights, for
example. Their resistance lowers as the light intensity increases: an
LDR's resistance is high in the dark and at low light levels, and only
a small amount of current may flow through it.
