USE EMPHASIS MARKERS FOR PERSUASIVE
PURPOSES
Persuasive writing
-intends to convince readers to believe in an idea or opinion and to do an
action. Many writings such as criticisms, reviews, reaction papers.
What is Emphasis and Emphasis Markers?
Emphasis
-is the repetition of key words and phrases or the careful arrangement of
words to give them special weight and prominence. The most emphatic spot in a
sentence is usually the end.
Emphasis marker
-is a word or affix that expresses a speaker's stress upon the predicate of a
sentence.
- are words and expressions that emphasize a point according to their
categories and functions.
THE MOST COMMON EMPHASIS MARKERS:
1. Emotive words
- describes words and phrases meant to evoke an emotional response to a
subject. Conversely, referential language represents the use of
a word or phrase solely by its lexical definition, or denotation.
Emotive Words
*Adjectives - Appalling, Wonderful, Heavenly, Magical and Tragic.
* Abstract Nouns - Freedom, Pride, Justice, Love and Terror.
*Verbs - Destroyed, Vindicated, Saved, Betrayed and Adored.
2. Personal Pronouns
Using “we” “you” and “us” to create a connection between writers and readers.
