Warning notice system
This manual contains notices you have to observe in order to ensure your personal safety, as well as to prevent
damage to property. The notices referring to your personal safety are highlighted in the manual by a safety alert
symbol, notices referring only to property damage have no safety alert symbol. These notices shown below are
graded according to the degree of danger.
DANGER
indicates that death or severe personal injury will result if proper precautions are not taken.
WARNING
indicates that death or severe personal injury may result if proper precautions are not taken.
CAUTION
indicates that minor personal injury can result if proper precautions are not taken.
NOTICE
indicates that property damage can result if proper precautions are not taken.
If more than one degree of danger is present, the warning notice representing the highest degree of danger will
be used. A notice warning of injury to persons with a safety alert symbol may also include a warning relating to
property damage.
Qualified Personnel
The product/system described in this documentation may be operated only by personnel qualified for the specific
task in accordance with the relevant documentation, in particular its warning notices and safety instructions.
Qualified personnel are those who, based on their training and experience, are capable of identifying risks and
avoiding potential hazards when working with these products/systems.
Proper use of Siemens products

Communication RS-232 adapter or RS-422/485 adapters with an RS-232 to RS-485 converter may be
used for communicating with the remote display(s).
Number of remote displays Up to 100 remote displays simultaneously with addressing capability (up to 60 seconds
scanning delay).
Baud rate 2400 bps to 19.2 kbps
Reports • Data logging: log to HTML file format.
• Configuration: save configuration to PDC file format or export to HTML file for printing,
cloning, or restoring remote display settings.
Configuration Configure one remote display at a time.
Logging • Log data to HTML file. All enabled remote displays are logged to a single file.
• Logging interval: 2 seconds to 60 hours or manual.
The CD is accessible from the CD browser by clicking any of the buttons on the screen.
1. Before installing software, click the Readme button under Extras. Note the code number
relating to the software configuration that best suits your installation (1, 10 or 100
meters). See Software Configurations (Page 8) for details.
2. Next, from the main window, click Install on the left to install SITRANS RD Software.
3. When prompted, enter the appropriate code number that was retrieved from the Readme
file.
During installation, the SITRANS RD Software program icon is placed on the Windows
Desktop and also in the Start Menu with other related icons.
After, the SITRANS RD Software CD browser may be used to access the rest of the
CDROM, including instruction manuals, a readme file containing important information about
SITRANS RD Software and free Adobe® Acrobat® software for viewing PDF files.
Note
This software may only be installed on a single computer. It may not be shared over a
network or otherwise used on more than one computer at a time, except for the purpose of
remote programming of remote displays. For complete terms, refer to the End User License
Agreement (EULA) found in the SITRANS RD Software registration window.
®Adobe, the Adobe logo, Acrobat, and the Acrobat logo are either registered trademarks or
trademarks of Adobe Systems Incorporated in the United States and/or other countries.
Note
The selected baud rate in SITRANS RD Software and the remote display baud rate must be
the same.

Note
• Due to the intensive processor usage, it may be necessary to click more than once before
a submenu or function is launched.
• Accessing menus or other windows could disrupt communication with the remote
display(s).
• Use left mouse button or tab key on the keyboard to navigate within a window.
• Parameters not available within a window appear grayed-out.
• An arrow next to a box indicates a drop-down menu. Click on arrow to display the drop-
down menu.
Before sending the new settings, SITRANS RD Software will ask to confirm that the remote
display’s current settings should be overwritten. Choose Yes to overwrite the settings, or No
to abort the operation and return to the configuration window.
The configuration window contains the following menus:
File, Tools, and Password.
Note
Accessing menus or other windows during configuration may disrupt communication with
other remote display(s).
Note
Create a configuration file before changing any setting and before any calibration operation,
to keep a backup of current settings.
Note
The password must be a four-digit number; 0000 is the default unlocked password setting.
Setting Function
Tag Number Identify a meter and optionally display it on the meter. Pre-selected characters may
be used by dragging the desired symbol from the Special Symbols area on the right
of the screen into the Tag Number field.
Display Units Identify the engineering units of the monitored value and optionally display it on the
meter. Pre-selected characters may be used by dragging the desired symbol from
the Special Symbols area on the right of the screen into the Display Units field.
Display Color Change the color of the meter display on the screen.
Relay Tag Change the text label of the Relay Status indicator(s).
Relay Color Change the color of the Relay Status indicator(s).
Note
These settings are for display only. They are NOT saved to the meter.
Note
Factory default baud rate is 2400 bps.
Note
Refer to the SITRANS RD200 Instruction Manual for more information about relay operation
and acknowledgement.
Logging may be paused or stopped at any time. SITRANS RD Software will indicate logging
and paused status with corresponding message flashing in the main window status bar.
When logging, all other SITRANS RD Software functions and windows are not accessible.
