ASYNCHRONOUS MODULE 1

READINGS IN PHILIPPINE HISTORY- SOC 101


Overview
Have you tried visiting any museum in the Philippines? Can you imagine yourself living in the 17 th-
18th century or even during the pre-colonial period of the Philippines? Did you find any interest
seeing those exhibits, relics and remnants of the past ages? This module will provide lessons and
activities that increase your chances and interests in appreciating the preserved materials of our
ancestors, heroes and remarkable persons who have been part of Philippine History. It is
essential to identify the historical events of our countries and connect it with our contemporary
period.

Time needed to complete: 5 hours


Module Objectives
The module aims to:
Objective 1: To understand the meaning of history as an academic discipline and to be
familiar with the underlying philosophy and methodology of the discipline.

Objective 2: To examine and access the value of historical pieces of evidence and sources
and to appreciate the importance of history in the social and national life of the Philippines.
Learning Outcome/s
After successful completion of this module, you should have the ability to:
* Learning outcome 1: explain the basic concepts of history
* Learning outcome 2: evaluate primary sources for their credibility and analyze the context and
perspectives of different primary sources.

1. What particular History of the Philippines that I want to study? Why?
2. If I will be given a chance to exhume an original account referring to Philippine History, what
would it be? Why?

B. Answer and search for the following


1. Explain the significance of studying History. Cite at least 3 historical events or places
in your city/municipality and provide for their historical accounts.
