C. Motivation: Video Analysis

To start our discussion for today, I have

here a short video. I am going to present Yes, we’re ready!
it on your screen, and I want you to
analyze it carefully because after
watching, I’ll be asking some questions
some questions. Are you ready?

(The teacher will present the video.)

Now that you had finished watching the

video, here are my question.

Guide Questions:

1. What was the video all about?

Paul: Sir, the video is all about HIV and
AIDS. It is some sort of infomercial.
2. What did you feel upon watching
the video? Namie: I feel happy because it does not

AIDS but it also gives hope and courage
to those persons already diagnosed.

3. Who do you think are the target Raphael: Sir, I think the target audience
audience of the video and what of the video are the teenagers because
does it wants to imply to the most of the characters in the video are

teens.
Very good! With that given, what do you
think is our topic for today? Olive: Sir, I think our topic for today will
be HIV and AIDS.
Exactly! Today, we are going to discuss
HIV and AIDS.

D. Lesson Proper

You know class, there has been

misconceptions between HIV and AIDS
and sometimes, people are confused
about the difference between the two. Let
us start with HIV. Does anyone of you
know what’s the meaning of HIV? Kyleigh: Sir, HIV stands for Human
Immunodeficiency Virus.
Very good! HIV means Human
Immunodeficiency Virus. Now, based on
the meaning itself, let’s break it down one
by one for us to better understand HIV.
First, we have HUMAN which simply
means that this virus can only infect
humans. Second, we have
IMMUNODEFICIENCY. From the word
itself, what system of the body does this Aethan: Sir, I think this virus attacks our
virus attacks? Immune System.
Very good! It attacks our Immune
System. Take note my dear students that
our Immune System is a combination of
cells, tissues and organs which protects
our body form diseases and harmful
pathogens. Now, what do you think will
happened if this virus attacks our Miguel: Sir, our Immune System will
Immune System? weaken, and it is possible that we will be
bombarded by different diseases.
Exactly! That’s why HIV like any other
virus is NO JOKE.

Let us now go to the third word which is

VIRUS, and what did I tell you about
Tristan: Sir, you told us that virus is the
virus?
worst enemy of our human body.
Very good! It is because virus cannot
replicate alone, meaning they must infect
cells and use its components to make
copies of themselves. Often, they kill the
host cell in the process and cause
damage to the host organism. Worst,
they are not like bacteria. They can’t be
killed by antibiotics.
After breaking down the meaning of HIV,
can someone please give a general
meaning of HIV based on the concepts Micaella: Sir, based on the concepts
that we have discussed? that we have discussed, I can say that
HIV, is a VIRUS that attacks the body’s

symptoms therefore we can say that
AIDS is the late stage of HIV Infection. It
happens after someone has had HIV for
many years. In AIDS, the immune system
is severely weakened. Serious infections
and health problems happen. That
makes the person living with AIDS
vulnerable to a wide range of illnesses.
Have you heard of news of a person
that has been completely treated from
AIDS?
No, sir.
Why do you think so?

Exactly. That’s why if you contracted Cyralyn: Sir, it is because AIDS has still

rest of your life.

Are there any more questions?

AIDS varies from person to person. Ashley: Sir, can someone survive

infected while others live relatively
normal lives for many years, even after
being officially diagnosed with AIDS.

Any more questions?

Well, I hope you can now differentiate None, sir.

HIV from AIDS upon knowing its
concepts.

E. Generalization

To generalize our discussion for today,

can someone please recite in class the
Vince: Sir, HIV stands for Human
differences between HIV and AIDS?
Immunodeficiency Virus which attacks
our immunes system and can only infect
humans. On the other hand, AIDS
means Acquired Immune Deficiency
Syndrome which is considered as the
late stage of HIV Infection where the
body can no longer fight the virus
making the person vulnerable to different
diseases.
Very well said! Thank you so much
Vince.

F. Application

Now, I have here a situation. One of your

relatives has recently contracted HIV.
What is the most appropriate thing to do? Anne Nicole: Sir, treat the person
normally. Don’t make him feel that he’s
