Basketball is a game played between two teams consisting of five players each on a court,

usually indoors but can be played outdoors depending on the place that the game can be possibly

held. Each team tries to score by tossing the ball through the opponent’s goal, an elevated

horizontal hoop and net called a basket. As well as Basketball is known for its longing popularity

in sports.

10 examples of important highlights in development in Basketball

The game of basketball as it is known today was created by Dr. James Naismith in December

1891 in Springfield, Massachusetts.

The first public basketball game was played in Springfield, Massachusetts, on March 11, 1892.

December 21, 1891, Naismith published rules for a new game using five basic ideas and thirteen

rules.

In 1906 were metal hoops, nets and backboards introduced. Moreover, earlier the soccer ball was

replaced by a Spalding ball, like the one used today.

The first professional league was founded in 1898. Six teams took part in the National Basketball

League, and the first champions were the Trenton Nationals, followed by the New York

Wanderers, the Bristol Pile Drivers and the Camden Electrics.

In 1909 the first international match was held in Saint Petersburg: Mayak Saint Petersburg beat a

YMCA American team.

The first World Championship was held in Argentina in 1950.

The Basketball league was founded in New York City on June 6, 1946 as the Basketball

Association of America (BAA).

In 1954, the 24-second shot clock was developed.

in 1979 to 1980 NBA introduced the three-point line.

Michael Jordan that basketball started to reach international audiences, especially on the 1992

United States men's Olympic basketball team, known as the Dream Team.

In 2000–2002 Los Angeles Lakers’ Kobe Bryant won three straight championship.
