Who benefits from Energy-modeling?
• Engineers
• Manufacturers (Quantitatively prove that your
product saves money in X amount of time.)
• Building Owners
• Building Tenants (monthly bills)
• The Environment (You can choose the option with
least emission, etc….)

Building Envelope
• A building envelope is commonly defined
as the separation of the interior and
exterior of a building.
• It helps facilitate climate control and
protect the indoor environment
• Overall it is the entire exterior building
system including doors, windows, roof,
foundation, floor, siding and all the
components such as structural masonry
and insulation.

Shading Coefficient
• The shading coefficient is expressed as a
number without units between 0 and 1
• The lower a shading coefficient, the
greater is its shading ability.

Visible Transmittance (VT)
• The fraction of visible light
transmitted through the
window (number between 0
and 1)
• The higher the Visible
Transmittance, the more light
is transmitted.

Building location and geometry
• Typically, the more wall (including windows) area available, the higher the
heating and cooling loads.

• Operational Hours?
• What are the operational hours of the
buildings?
• Working daytime, nighttime?
• Winter time? Summer time? Which
months of the year?
