Assignment No. 1 Readings in Philippine History

1. Define the following words based on your understanding: (5 points each).

1) History
 History is a story of what has happened or may have happened in the past. It refers
to significant events that have occurred in the past as well as those that are
currently happening. Everything will be deemed history at some point. History,
whether written, painted, carved, or sung, tells a tale, it is a collection of events that
someone describes to you that are typically significant.
2) Past
 Past is something that has already happened. It is an irreversible series of events,
occurrences in natural environment and human history that leave evidence of
memory on the present, considered as a reflection of the past but also as the
observed specific realities of life, of all that exists now as a theoretical division of
existence.
3) Controversy
 Controversy is a discussion marked especially by the expression of opposing views.
When you describe something or someone as controversial, you indicate they are
the center of heated public debate, controversy, or condemnation.
4) Multi-Perspective
 Multi-Perspective is pertaining to someone who has more than one perspective or
point of view. In history, multi-perspective refers to the epistemological concept
that history is interpretive and subjective, with numerous coexisting narratives
regarding specific historical events, rather than history being objectively represented
by a single “closed” narrative.
