Test Goals
The purpose of this test is to validate combustion operability space for co-firing
with distillate and permeate gas fuel. This data collected shall be used to define
control philosophy & combustion boundaries for co-firing operation and
accordingly control system shall be programmed for normal operation.
This test procedure is written specifically for the Engro Powergen unit -
SN#298925 . This unit is 9E equipped with Mark VI control system.
Test Preparation
• Perform fuel transfers (gas to liquid and back to gas) at part load and
capture high speed trend data
• Product Services to review to fuel transfers data for a) check the
healthiness of both fuel systems b) establish baseline parameters for co-
firing test.
• Perform combustion borescope inspections for all combustion cans
including fuel nozzle tip and cap and submit report through ER case for
review
• Combustion engineer shall review and disposition BI report
• Perform & record calibration fuel nozzle pressure transmitters (96GN-
1/2/3)
• Review as found logic forces and/or hardwired overrides
• Compare as running software vs as received revised software

• Download m6b files and verify controller is in controlling state & HMI
communication is working fine.
Test instructions
Instructions below provided for controls TA on how to achieve mixed fuel
operation, vary split/load and return to normal operation. Further instructions
and monitoring of the machine are provided by Combustion team.
1) Unit is in Preselect load on full gas operation above 70% load.
2) Force FX1_CMD to desired Split (start point would be 0.45)
3) Initiate transfer to LF
4) Before transfer completes. Force L83FL to “False”. Both L84FG & L84FL will
be false and L84MIXT will become True, allowing mixed fuel operation.
5) Load can be moved and up and down using operator raise and lower
commands.
6) Split can be varied by changing FX1_CMD online
7) Full gas operation can be achieved by forcing setting FX1_CMD to 0 ( LF by
setting FX1_CMD to 1)
8) Unforce L83FL once full gas operation is achieved.
