Lesson 1
ACTIVITY 1

1. The closure of schools around the world due the global pandemic posed
serious challenges on the delivery of quality basic education. As a teacher, what
do you think are the fundamental concerns in terms of curriculum standards that
need to be adressed in order to ensure learning continuity? Cite a specific
example. Do you think these concerns could be solved by teachers alone? Why
or why not?

This kind of pandemic brings a big challenge for the Department of


Education with the new normal set up. As a teacher the best way to adress the
problem is to shift into distance learning or what we call modular learning. With
this new curriculum strategy, we can ensure learning continuity. This concerns
is not for teachers only, it will be the collaboration of all the DepEd forces
teaching and non teaching staff in facing new normal.

2. Even prior to the spread of COVID-19 that eventually led to closure of


schools nationwide, the congested curriculum has been a perenial problem of
teacher( Andaya 2018). This is percieved to be one of the hindering factors on
the poor performance of Filipino learners. Do you agree with the observation?
Why or why not?

Yes I agree,in the department of education curriculum had been laid and
adapt for the purpose of achieving the higher standard education and can
produce competitive learner. But due to the congested curriculum we cant
achieve our goals.
ACTIVITY 2
1. What are the general and specific purposes of the development of MELCs?
It serve as a guide for teachers, with it comes to the instructional needs of
learners in maintaining and achieved.
It assists schools in navigating limited number of school days,as they
employ multiple delivery schemes by providing them ample instructional
space.

2. How does curriculum review aid in the identification of essentila learning


competencies?

Analyzing of the prerequisite knowledge and skills among the learning


competencies for each subject area.
Identifying knowledge and skills what are needed to prepare students for
learning competencies.
Maping of the essential and desirable learning competencies within in
curriculum.

3. What is the difference between essential learning competencies and desirable


learning competencies?

Essential learning competenciesdefined as what student need, considered


indespensibable, in the teaching learning process to build skills to equip learners
for subsequent grade levels and consequently, for lifelong learning. While,
desirable learning competencies were defined as what may enhance
education,but may not be necessary in building foundation skills.

4. How were the most essential learning competencies identified? What were
the decisions made in order to trim down the number of the essential learning
competencies further?

Learning competencies were identified by knowing the ff.


characteresitics. It is aligned with national, state or local standards/frameworks
specially literate Filipinos. It connects the content to higher concept across
content areas. It is applicable to real life situations. It would be important for
students to aquire the competency after he/she left the particular grade level.It
would not be expected that most student would learn this through their parents.

5. What is the importance of the MELC’s in ensuring the delivery of quality


instruction?
MELCS is a guide for teacher, it helps in preparing lesson and
instructional materials. Most Essential curriculum are badly in need MELCS, it
is useful beyond a single test or unit of day.

ACTIVITY 1

1. What is the importance of unpacking and combining the MELCs?

MELCS are need to unpacked in order to organize learning activities and


effectively address the needs of learners and facing challenges of instructional
deliveries.

2. What considerations must be taken in unpacking and combining the


MELC’s? explain each.

Alignment on the Content and Performance Standards – in unpacking


MELC’s we must consider this feature in order for us to achieve a quality
tteaching output.

3. Do all the MELC’s need to be unpacked or combined? Why or why not?

Yes, all MELC’s should be unpacked in order to organize learning


activities so that our students would not be congested.
ACTIVITY 2

1. Form a group of four members within your LAC, preferably with fellow
teacher’s in your respective learning area.
2. Using the curriculum guide and a list of the MELCs, choose MELC’s in the
first quarter and unpack these into learning objectives.
3. Each team will present their unpacked learning objectives. Discussion and
processing will follow each presentation. Suggestion and insights from each
group will be considered in enhancing the learning objectives.
