§ 1 | Scope of Application
These admission regulations (ZO) apply to the Master's degree programs "Aerospace Engineering" (3 or 4
semesters) and "International Automotive Engineering" (3 or 4 semesters) at Aachen University of Applied
Sciences.

§ 2 | Application Deadlines
(1) Applications for admission to the Masters’ programs must be submitted to the responsible department by
November 30 of the previous year for the summer semester and by May 31 of the same year for the winter
semester. In case of need, the department may set an extension of the deadline. The extension of the deadline
must be announced on the Internet.

(2) An application for admission can also be submitted if the final certificate of a first university degree
according to § 3 paragraph 1 is not yet available by the dates mentioned in paragraph 1. In this case, the
required degree (according to § 3 paragraph 1) must be submitted to the Registrar's Office by October 15 at
the latest for the winter semester or by April 15 at the latest for the summer semester as proof of special
suitability, unless otherwise specified in the RPO.

§ 3 | Admission Requirements
(1) In addition to the general requirements for enrollment, the prerequisite for admission to the Masters’
programs is the completion of a relevant course of study with a standard period of study of at least 7
semesters, which has been successfully completed with a Bachelor's degree or another professionally qualifying
degree (diploma, etc.). For the purposes of sentence 1, a relevant course of study is a course of study with a
focus on aerospace or automotive science at a German or foreign university. In addition to courses of study
that explicitly focus on these subjects, this includes, in particular, mechanical engineering courses of study with
corresponding specializations.

Students from foreign partner universities must prove that they have successfully completed the examinations
required under cooperation agreements with the partner university.

(2) Applicants who have not acquired their study qualification at a university in the educational area of the
Bologna Reform must provide evidence of a successfully completed Graduate Record Examination (GRE) -
General Test (computer-based).

Within the framework of cooperation agreements with foreign partner universities, the selection committee may
determine exceptions to the GRE General Test requirement.

(3) The prerequisite for admission to the study program is proof of special aptitude for the study program
according to § 4. To participate in the aptitude test, the study requirements mentioned in paragraphs 1 and 2
must be proven.

Within the framework of cooperation agreements with foreign partner universities, the selection committee may
determine exceptions to the requirement of the aptitude test.

(4) All applicants must also provide evidence of their English language skills by means of a Test of English as a
Foreign Language (TOEFL), the International English Language Testing System (IELTS), or the Cambridge
Certificate in English (FCE). The following minimum scores are required:

- IELTS 6.5 (minimum 6.0 for each subtest).

- TOEFL

- paper based 580+ with TWE 4,5+

- internet based overall score 92

(min. 20 per subtest)

- Cambridge Certificate in English (FCE), Grade C

English language skills can also be recognized by presenting equivalent proof. The selection committee decides
on the equivalence. Proof of the required English language skills must be submitted at the latest at the time of
enrollment.

(5) Applicants whose native language is English or who have completed their first professional university degree
at an English-language university or in an English-language degree program are exempt from providing proof of
English language proficiency.

(6) Applicants whose native language is not German or who did not obtain their study qualification at a
German-language university must provide evidence of German language skills to the extent of the "Zertifikat
Deutsch" (B1 level). In exceptional cases, the B1 proof can be submitted later, provided that the applicant can
prove at least A2-level German language skills at the time of enrollment. In this case, the submission of proof
of German language skills at B1 level is a prerequisite for the registration of the Master's thesis.

Within the framework of cooperation agreements with foreign partner universities, the selection committee may
determine exceptions to the requirement of German language skills.

§ 4 | Evidence of special suitability through suitability

verification
(1) The determination of the special aptitude takes place

a) in the case of applicants who have acquired their study qualification within a member state of the European
Union (EU nationals), by evaluating the final grade of the degree in accordance with § 3 paragraph 1,

b) for applicants who have not acquired their study qualification within a member state of the European Union,
by the evaluation of the GRE test score according to Table 1 in the Annex.

and for all applicants

c) by the evaluation of the professional relevance (study contents) of the degree according to § 3 paragraph 1.

(2) The evaluation of the relevance to the subject is carried out according to the following scheme:

The modules completed in the first professional degree, the knowledge of which is an important professional
prerequisite for the Master's program, shall be taken as a basis.

These modules are

for the Master's program "Aerospace Engineering" (3 or 4 semesters)

List 1 (focus on aircraft engineering):

− Machine Dynamics
− Control and Simulation Engineering
− Aerodynamics or Combustion Engineering
− Aircraft propulsion systems
− Flight Mechanics
− Aircraft structure design or flight control systems or flow machines
− Lightweight construction or airframe or engine maintenance, repair and test engineering

List 2 (focus on space technology):

− Machine Dynamics
− Physical fundamentals of aerospace engineering
− Space propulsion systems
− Space systems
− Space flight mechanics
− Space applications
− System design and operation of space missions
for the Master’s program "International Automotive Engineering" (3 or 4 semesters)

− Aerodynamics in vehicle construction

− Dynamics of vehicles
− Measurement and testing techniques in powertrain or lightweight construction
− Automotive electronics or machine dynamics
− Transmission technology or manufacturing techniques in vehicle construction
− Alternative drives or vehicle design
− Energy storage systems or vehicle integration

The number of modules from the corresponding list completed by applicants in their first professional degree,
divided by the total number of subjects included in the list, yields a degree of coverage in percent. In the case
of the Master's degree program "Aerospace Engineering", the higher value from the two alternative lists is used
as the degree of coverage. This degree of coverage is converted into a "Subject Suitability Score" according to
Table 2 reproduced in the Appendix.

Subjects linked with "or" in the above lists only count alternatively to those in the same row.

In case of doubt, the selection committee decides on the equivalence of modules with comparable content.

The evaluation grade is formed from the subject-specific qualifying grade and the final grade of the first
professional degree or the GRE equivalence grade. The final grade of the first professional degree is used for
2/3 of the evaluation grade and the subject-specific aptitude grade is used for 1/3 of the evaluation grade. The
evaluation grade must be at least 2.1 in order to be admitted to the study program "Aerospace Engineering".
The evaluation grade must be at least 2.2 for admission to the "International Automotive Engineering"
program. The aptitude test is documented.

§ 5 | Application procedure
(1) The application for participation in the application procedure must be submitted online to FH Aachen,
Department of Aerospace Engineering (www.fh-aachen.de).

(2) The application for admission to the study program must be accompanied by the following documents in the
online application:

− Tabular curriculum vitae showing the sequence of relevant educational stations.

− Certificates of previous university education with final grade and a complete overview of subjects and
grades (Transcript of Records).
− In accordance with § 3 paragraph 2, certification of the results achieved in the Graduate Record
Examination Test (GRE) for applicants who did not acquire their study qualification at a university in
the educational area of the Bologna Reform.
− Completed academic eligibility evaluation form (see Table 3 for an example).
− Proof of sufficient knowledge of English.
− Proof of sufficient knowledge of German.

Certificates and attestations must be submitted as officially certified copies in German or English in case of
admission. In case of doubt, the university will make a final decision as to whether the proof is sufficient.

(3) In cases according to § 2 paragraph 2, in which the previous university studies have not yet been fully
completed by the application deadline, the missing transcript documents can first be replaced by a transcript of
records certified by the university, the creation date of which is no more than four weeks before the end of the
application deadline.

In this case, the average grade according to § 4 paragraph 1 is improved by 0.2 grade points in the application
procedure in the event that the transcript of records does not show a thesis incl. colloquium or defense. In this
case, the determination of the special suitability is only preliminary. In order to determine the final suitability,
the complete transcript of records must be submitted in compliance with the deadlines according to § 2
paragraph 2.

§ 6 | Examination Board, Selection Committee

(1) The Examination Committee is responsible for the organization of the aptitude test as well as for the tasks
defined by these regulations. It shall ensure compliance with these admission regulations. Details on the
composition and election of the examination board are regulated by the RPO. For the determination of the
special aptitude, a selection committee consisting of full-time members of the teaching staff is appointed by the

academic year.

(5) The meetings of the selection committee shall not be public. The members of the selection committee are
subject to official secrecy.

§ 7 | Conclusion of the procedure

Immediately after the conclusion of the procedure, the selection committee shall provide the applicants with
information in electronic form about the determination of special suitability and any conditions pursuant to § 5
(2) and (3). The examination board shall decide on any objections.

§ 8 | Non-compliance and deception

(1) If an applicant has deceived in a procedure to determine special aptitude, the special aptitude shall be
deemed not to have been proven. If this fact only becomes known after the certificate according to § 7 has
been issued, the selection committee shall revoke the determination of special suitability and inform the
Student Secretariat accordingly.

(2) Decisions of the selection committee shall be communicated to the applicant in writing without delay.

§ 9 | Coming into effect1 and publication
